Obscenity, chaos mar fashion parade at IIT
Roorkee, October 31 The event drew flak from all corners for parading scantily clad models on the ramp at one of the most premier institutes of the country. The programme, which started with sobriety, turned immediately into a vulgar display with the models, who were students of various institutes across the country, started appearing on the ramp in micro-mini costumes. Obscene postures by couples during a round of the parade added insult to injury. “It seems that we are watching some vulgar FTV show,” remarked a woman spectator. Similarly, a girl student was overheard saying that such type of show could not be allowed to take place at least in an educational institute. However, the crowd, mainly consisting of boys, seemed overjoyed during the programme, which started around three hours beyond the scheduled time due to mismanagement on the part of the organisers. A substandard light and music system, which failed thrice during the show, irritated the spectators. To the disappointment of many present there, Bollywood star Sonal Chauhan, who was the chief guest, did not turn up at the event, leaving the organisers in an unpleasant situation. Students of six institutes, including the IIFT, Delhi, COER, Roorkee, and the IIT-Roorkee, took part in the show. The show, which drew thousands of spectators, lasted for over two hours. Meanwhile, “Gully Cricket”, “Blind Date” and “Treasure Hunt” attracted youngsters the most in fun events during the festival here today. While hundreds of spectators thronged Hanger, where the second round of a dance competition “Footloose” was under way, many youngsters chose to participate in fun games held at Hobby Club this afternoon. The “Blind Date”, in which couples have to reach in the next round after the successful completion of fun-filled seven missions, witnessed participation by a total of 30 couples. In the next round of “Footloose”, seven teams sailed into the final competition of the group category. In the solo category, 14 performers displayed their dance skills in the second round while 18 teams participated in the duet category. The highlight of the event was the guest appearance by Phalguni Bhardwaj and Sahil Tyagi, the winners of 2009 and 2007 editions, respectively, of the “Boogy Woogy” programme. |
