Ferozepur
4 held for drug peddling :
Ferozepur police arrested four persons and recovered 19 quintals and 25 kgs of poppy husk from their possession. Police said the accused have been identified as Ajaib Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Vir Singh and Surinder Singh.
During checking 50 bags containing 35 kg poppy husk were recovered besides one 7.65 mm pistol with magazine and 10 live rounds were recovered from Ajaib Singh, police said. 

Hoshiarpur
Couple booked for murder:
The Sadar police has booked Salima Begum and her husband Murid Ali, both of Nasrala, under sections 302 and 120 B of the IPC for allegedly murdering Rachhpal Singh of the same village last evening. According to police sources, Murid Ali and Salima Begum allegedly assaulted Rachhpal Singh, due to which he died. Murid Ali had got  suspicious of his wife’s illicit relations with Rachhpal Singh.

Kamath is PNB Chairman:
The Union Government has appointed K.R. Kamath Chairman and Managing Director of Punjab National Bank (PNB) for a period of five years. Earlier, he was Chairman and Managing Director of Allahabad Bank. Known for his conceptual clarity, insight, communication skills and ability to build result-oriented team, Kamath has been instrumental in bringing in perceptible change in corporate governance of Corporation Bank, Bank of India and Allahabad Bank. 

Nawanshahr
Body found:
The body of an old person was found lying wrapped in a gunny bag along the canal road near Sanawa village on the Nawanshahr-Chandigarh highway here on Monday. A case under sections 302 and 201 of the IPC has been registered.

Road show: A road show was organised by the CII in association with the Indian Earthmoving and Construction Industry Association as a run-up to Excon-2009, India’s largest trade fair on construction equipments and construction technology to be held at Bangalore later this year. An official release by the CII said that Excon-2009 will showcase the latest advancements in construction engineering products.

MOHALI
Panthic meeting:
The Panthak Vichar Manch, Chandigarh, is organising a panthic programme to highlight the failure of the Chandigarh administration in extending the benefits to the riot victims. Baljit Singh Khalsa, a member of the manch, said no benefit had been extended by the UT on the pattern of the Punjab Government in 25 years. The convention would be held at Mohali on October 31. 

Body found: The police recovered the decomposed body of an unidentified person from Nayagaon on Tuesday. The body was recovered from the bank of a seasonal rivulet and appeared to be of a migrant labourer aged about 32 years. Beer bottles were seen to be lying near the body. The police has sent the body to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. 

Panchkula
Labourer suffers burns:
A 40-year-old resident of Maheshpur village suffered severe burns when a kerosene stove burst here today. The injured, Som Pal, a labourer, was admitted to the General Hospital, Sector 6. According to sources, the wife of Som Pal had gone to the market when he decided to prepare tea for himself. The kerosene stove burst in the process. The doctors said the victim had suffered 40 per cent burn injuries in the accident.
