MC plugs problem at ESI Hospital Amritsar, October 25 An MC team inspected the spot and plugged the water leakage caused by the temporary water pumping and disposal plant installed adjacent to the hospital. When The Tribune team revisited the site, the MC men were found installing a ditch machine at the open drainage running along the boundary wall of the ESI Hospital. SDO Tilak Raj, leading the MC team, said, “As an immediate measure, we have rid the area of water and plugged the problem spot from where the sewage was entering into the premises of the hospital.” The Tribune had highlighted how the sewage water posed a threat to the patients in the hospital. The spot had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and an active scourge for related diseases. It has been learnt that the sewerage pumping plant has been established on the land which originally belonged to the ESI management. Plans are there to shift the plant to another spot as it creates a polluting atmosphere for residents living nearby too. Nevertheless, it would be a temporary arrangement. “Covering the entire sewer line is the project which is next on the agenda. It would cost around Rs 9 crore which has already been sanctioned,” said Tilak Raj. The proposal would be part of the MC’s plan for providing proper sewerage for the residents of Amritsar under the JBIC (Japan Bank of International Commerce) programme. |
