‘Check female foeticide’
: To check the female foeticide a district-level workshop was organised at the office of the civil surgeon here on Tuesday. Chairman of Zila Parishad Gurtej Singh Khudi Kalan, civil surgeon Kuldip Kaur Sahni, programme officers of the Health Department, members of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Advisory Committee, and members of various NGOs took part in the workshop. Gurtej said the Health Department and the NGOs should check the female foeticide. Assistant civil surgeon Ashwani Kumar Malhotra also spoke on the occasion. Balbir Singh Sandhu Kalan and Gurpreet Sehna also expressed their views through a magic show and a poem, respectively.

Dhanoa is OSD to Dy CM
: The state government on Tuesday appointed Nirabhjeet Singh Dhanoa as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. A spokesperson said the details of the service conditions would be released in consultation with the Finance Department later. Meanwhile, in capacity of SAD Sukhbir has also constituted a three-member high-powered committee to take important panthik, political and organisational decisions in Delhi. The committee comprises Jathedar Manjeet Singh, president, SAD, Delhi, Jathedar Onkar Singh Thapar, all-India vice-president, SAD and Jathedar Avtar Singh, all-India general secretary, SAD.

Community police centres: The Punjab police has decided to create community police centres (CPCs) in police stations. According to an official spokesman, in the trial phase, five police stations, one each in Bathinda, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Ludhiana districts, have been chosen for this new initiative. The spokesman said community policing was aimed at improving community-police relationship and involving community in assisting the police in discharge of its duties. He added that specially designated community police officers have been deputed in these police stations.

Jammu
Migrant labourer dies
: A migrant labourer from Orissa was found dead at his rented accommodation on Tuesday. As per police sources, the body of Madhav (25), a resident of Orrisa, was found from his rented house in Sarwal. A police source said Madhav was not feeling well last night and had consumed some medicines. He died late last night.

2 bodies found: The police recovered two bodies of old men from a railway track near Jammu Railway Station and Chatha on Tuesday. Sources said bodies had been shifted to Government Medical College for autopsy. The police has initiated probe under Section 174, CrPC.

Katra
Pilgrim killed in landslide
: One pilgrim was killed while another was injured in a landslide near Sanji Chatt enroute the Vaishno Devi shrine, here on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Atro Devi (60) and belonged to village Bhatodha, Faridabad district of Haryana. The injured has been identified as Chanday and belongs to the same village. She was initially taken to the Bhawan Hospital and later shifted to the Katra Hospital.

Srinagar
One held for murder
: One person was arrested in connection with the death of a 16-year-old boy on Monday near a shrine in Baramulla district, official sources said on Tuesday. Sameer Ahmad Khan of Arampora village of Sopore had gone to the shrine of Sufi saint Baba Shakoor-ud-din atop a hillock at Watlab, 65 km from here, which is thronged by devotees after the Id prayers. His body was found from a ditch and the police is questioning the arrested person as preliminary probe indicated that he had a quarrel with some person earlier in the day near the shrine.
