‘Check female foeticide’: To check the female foeticide a district-level workshop was organised at the office of the civil surgeon here on Tuesday. Chairman of Zila Parishad Gurtej Singh Khudi Kalan, civil surgeon Kuldip Kaur Sahni, programme officers of the Health Department, members of the Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Advisory Committee, and members of various NGOs took part in the workshop. Gurtej said the Health Department and the NGOs should check the female foeticide. Assistant civil surgeon Ashwani Kumar Malhotra also spoke on the occasion. Balbir Singh Sandhu Kalan and Gurpreet Sehna also expressed their views through a magic show and a poem, respectively.

Dhanoa is OSD to Dy CM: The state government on Tuesday appointed Nirabhjeet Singh Dhanoa as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. A spokesperson said the details of the service conditions would be released in consultation with the Finance Department later. Meanwhile, in capacity of SAD Sukhbir has also constituted a three-member high-powered committee to take important panthik, political and organisational decisions in Delhi. The committee comprises Jathedar Manjeet Singh, president, SAD, Delhi, Jathedar Onkar Singh Thapar, all-India vice-president, SAD and Jathedar Avtar Singh, all-India general secretary, SAD.Community police centres: The Punjab police has decided to create community police centres (CPCs) in police stations. According to an official spokesman, in the trial phase, five police stations, one each in Bathinda, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Ludhiana districts, have been chosen for this new initiative. The spokesman said community policing was aimed at improving community-police relationship and involving community in assisting the police in discharge of its duties. He added that specially designated community police officers have been deputed in these police stations.
