General transfers’ date extended:
The Punjab government has extended last date of general transfers to September 30. A spokesman of the Chief Minister’s Office said here today a decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. He has directed the Chief Secretary to issue instructions in this regard.

Sukhbir assures arhtiyas: A delegation of the Arhtia Association, Punjab , led by president Ravinder Singh Cheema, on Thursday called on Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal regarding their demands. Sukhbir assured them the state government was committed to strengthen age- old ties of arhtiyas and farmers. He said he would direct Secretary, Food and Civil Supply and Secretary, Punjab Mandi Board, for doing needful for the arhtiyas fraternity after looking into the issues raised by the association.

LUDHIANA
Zeidi’s release celebrated: The Muslim community here celebrated the release of Muntadhar al-Zeidi, Iraqi journalist who had hurled shoe at former US President George W Bush, by distributing sweets. He was in jail for nine months. The celebration was done after evening prayers at Jama Masjid.

Body found: The police has found a body of an unidentified woman near Gauri kund in the Bharmour tribal region of Chamba district. It has taken the body into custody and a case has been registered. Since the body could not be identified so far, hence it has been kept in the morgue.

MANDI
Woman hurt: Jai Devi, wife of Dhani Ram, a resident of Gopalpur, sustained grievous burn injuries after the gas stove burst while she was cooking meal at her house on Tuesday. She was under treatment at Zonal Hospital, Mandi, where doctors stated that she was stable but serious.

NURPUR
Suicide: Raj Kumar (33) of Sanjoor village in this subdivision reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance near the Civil Hospital here on Wednesday. The police has registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC and handed over the body to his relatives after conducting a post-mortem examination. According to the police, the deceased was a father of two children and was under depression for the past some time.

Workshop held: State Rural Development Training Institute, Shimla, organised a two-day workshop here for members of the Block Development Committee (BDC), which concluded on Thursday. It was organised with an objective to educating BDC members about the basic provisions and new concept of NREGA. The closing ceremony of the workshop, which was attended by 35 BDC members from Nurpur and Fatehpur development blocks, was presided over by Nagrota Bhagwan BDO Ram Parshad Sharma.
