Amid controversy over Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s consent to lay the foundation stone of an unapproved 100-acre colony at Lalton Kalan on Pakhowal Road here on September 18, the Chief Minister is reported to have put off his visit to the city.

Nursing home power disconnected
FIR lodged; Rs 26.81 lakh penalty imposed
Ludhiana, September 17
Having been caught stealing power through a tampered meter, the electricity supply to a nursing home in the posh Kitchlu Nagar locality was disconnected and penalty worth Rs 26.81 lakh imposed on it. In addition to this, an FIR has also been lodged with the anti-power theft police station under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003.

ASHA workers demand hike in salary

ASHA workers, along with other trade union activists, stage a dharna at mini secretariat in Ludhiana on Thursday. In response to a call given by the All-India ASHA Workers Union, the district unit of "accredited social health activists" (ASHA) organised a dharna at mini secretariat and later marched in procession to the civil surgeon office to press for the acceptance of their demands.
