Food and Supplies inspectors threaten agitation
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, August 15
The Food and Supplies Inspector’s Union has threatened a statewide agitation from August 26 if their demands were not met. Pala Mal Singla, president of the outfit, said they had been trying to get their demands redressed but to no avail. We have been left with no option but to come out on the roads.

He said their main demands include permission for replacing damaged gunny bags at the time of dispatch, implementing the recommendations of the K.S. Multani Committee on fixing the life of the stock to be stored and early dispatch of food grains stored in the open and in low lying areas.

“The government has also backed out of its promise to dispatch food grain stored in plastic bags by July. We want that this stock should be lifted by August 31,” he said.

He said they also resented the strong-arm tactics of the FCI wherein the agency forcibly loaded stock in vehicles of other state agencies.

Besides this the department was also facing a huge manpower shortage. “We have suggested that either retirement age should be increased or retried employees could be re-employed to tide over the crisis but the government has not paid heed to this,” he pointed out.

He said the union has fixed a meeting with representatives from various procurement agencies on August 16 at Ludhiana. In case our demands are not met, we will stage dharnas before holding the rally on August 26.
