Seats for
popular courses filled New Delhi, June 30 Some of the most sought after courses of this year were B.Com. (hons), history chemistry, geography and philosophy. Both Miranda House and Kirori Mal College, which offered geography (hons) on the north campus, have filled their seats in the first cut-off itself. While Hans Raj closed admissions for B.Com. (hons), other campus colleges decreased the cut-off by less than a per cent. Kirori Mal decreased its cut-off for B.Com. (hons.) from 94.25 to 93.75 per cent. Most wanted Commerce College at the university SRCC had its second cut-off for the course coming down to 94.75 from 95.25 percent. Many campus colleges declared the admissions for economics (hons) closed. Apart from SRCC, colleges that closed admissions for economics were Kirori Mal and Miranda House. Second economics cut-off for Hindu College remained the same as first at 92.75 per cent. Admissions to history (hons) were also closed by many colleges, including Kirori Mal, Lady Sri Ram, Miranda House and Khalsa College. Hans Raj brought its history cut-off down to 80 from 84 per cent. Hindu college fixed its cut-off for history at 86.75 per cent. Off-campus colleges, however, were seen giving good deals to students in the popular courses. .or B.Com and B.Com. (hons.), Moti Lal Nehru College decreased both the cut-offs by 3 per cent at 83 per cent and 86 per cent, respectively. Dayal Singh College also decreased its B.Com. cut-off from 85 percent to 83.5 per cent. For history, Deshbandhu asked for minimum 58 percent in best four subjects. Dayal Singh fixed history at 60 per cent, which was five per cent less than the first cut percent less than the first cut off. Ram Lal College decreased its history cut-off by 2 per cent at 63 per cent. Two of the prominent girls colleges with residential facilities for their students brought another disappointment for girl students. Both LSR and Miranda House closed maximum courses before the second cut-off. Together the colleges fulfilled seats in first cut-off for BA (programme), English, history, philosophy, political science, sociology, economics, Hindi and geography. Hope for
some, despair for others New Delhi, June 30 Naresh Gupta, an applicant standing with a group of his friends at SRCC, said, I am so relieved. Admissions to B.Com (hons) programme are still open at SRCC. Though the cut-off has come down marginally by 0.5 per cent, it is enough for me. Similarly, Brajrani, who has come all the way from Imphal, is also looking forward to taking admission in B.Com (hons). I am interested in B.Com (hons) and am thrilled that admissions are still open for it at many colleges. I will try at IP College because I feel the college has a decent hostel. The same is the case with Siddharth Jain, who was standing at Daulat Ram College. I am a science student and the second list has brought hope for me. Admissions are open in many colleges and the cut-offs are more than generous. I want to do physics (hons) and I don t think it should be a problem as the cut-off is down by 10 per cent. However, at Lady Sri Ram College, the scene was different. Ritika Walia, an English (hons) applicant sitting outside the college said, don’t ask me anything right now. I am so disappointed. Admission at LSR for English (hons) is closed. The admission is closed for many other BA courses also. I will have to try elsewhere. Nothing is going as I had planned. Ritika’s friend Megha Srivastava, sitting right next to her adds, we seem to have no luck here at LSR. We want to study English (hons), but seats in the course in at least eight colleges are full. Now we will have to choose some other subject at Miranda House or Gargi. |
