Dehradun, March 18
After withdrawal of support of Independent legislator from Pauri (city) Yashpal Benaam to the BJP government led by BC Khanduri, all eyes are on the alliance partner Uttrakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) and disgruntled party legislator Munna Singh Chauhan.

While a powerful section of the Dal led by senior leader Kashi Singh Airy and legislator Pushpesh Tripathi along with the party rank and file favour withdrawing support to the BJP government, the lone UKD Cabinet Minister in the government, Diwakar Bhatt, is against the move.

The Dal with three MLAs in the assembly had extended support to the BJP government. In the bargain, Bhatt was made a minister and two other senior leaders, Kashi Singh Airy and party chief BD Raturi, were given responsibilities in state corporations.

Now, with Lok Sabha elections approaching and the BJP going it alone, there is resentment in the Dal rank and file. Sources say it will all depend on the stand of Ram Gopal, the third party legislator in the assembly.

If two legislators decide to part ways with Bhatt on the issue, there will be a split in the party.

However, the party has yet to take a decision on the issue of withdrawal of support. “ The party will take a decision soon on the issue,” Virender Mohan Uttarakhandi, chief spokesperson of the party said.

Yashpal Benaam has asked the Dal to withdraw support to the BJP government and join hands with him for the Pauri Garhwal Lok sabha seat.

Meanwhile, Munna Singh Chauhan continues his tirade against the BJP amid rumours that he will join the BSP. He started a mass contact programme in the Yamuna and Tons valleys today. He has been touring the area where he enjoys political influence for consultations with his supporters.

Sources in the state BSP believe that party supremo Mayawati will soon take a decision on allowing Munna into the party fold.

Mussoorie, March 18
English medium schools of Mussoorie have decided to revive inter-school sports. This decision was taken in a meeting of sports instructors from 10 schools held at Oak Grove School, here today.

In this meeting, which was called at the behest of the principal of Oak Grove, the sports instructors from 10 schools decided to forget about their disputes in the past and revive the Mussoorie Schools Sports Association. This association had been dissolved in 1993 following disputes between the schools.

According to the principal of Oak Grove School, Anurag Tripathi, “The children were being deprived of a competitive sports environment due to the personal biases and prejudices between the various schools.”

He requested all the schools to take a collective decision to start inter-school sports in the town in the interests of the students.

In today’s meeting schools have agreed to reformulate the Mussoorie Schools Sports Association and decided to organize a cricket tournament from April 23 to 26.

It must be noted that the town, which currently has 15 English medium schools, had a tradition of organising inter-school sports (including an athletic meet) every year but due to the disputes various schools stopped participating.

A few schools including Oak Grove, St. George’s College, Wyneberg Allen, Woodstock and Waverly convent had been organising inter-school competitions amongst themselves but since the three years even this initiative had died down.

Dehradun, March 18
Just two day ahead of the University Examination to be held at DAV (PG) College there was a mad scramble amongst thousands of students to get their examination admit cards leading to road jam around the college, here today. It was chaotic as even the traffic police officials found it difficult to manage traffic outside the college premises.

Over 3,000 thousand students of B.Com had flocked to the college to collect their admit cards that are scheduled to begin from March 20.

Traffic police had put-up a barricade at the EC road- DAV College road junction to make it one-way. The situation could get worse when private and regular students would come to appear in the examination in DAV (PG) College.

College principal, Ashok Kumar Saxena said, “This is the first time that private and regular students will appear together for the examination. Normally, examinations for the private and regular students held separately. But this year, the college authorities are holding both the examinations simultaneously. As a result some 3,000 students will be appearing for the examination”.

The college is known for it superfluous students strength, which is around 20,000 that includes at least 13,000 girls and 14,000 boys. This strength is much beyond the college capacity.

He said things would be difficult right before the beginning and at the end of the examination. “At this point of time there would be over 5,000 students present in and out of the college campus,” said Saxena.

College will be organising its examination in three shifts that is from 7 am to 10, 11 am to 2 pm and then 3 pm to 6 pm. Therefore, there is expected to be a huge congestion outside the college premises at 10 pm and at 3 pm.

Though, College authorities are making tall claims that situation would be under control, as they have deployed traffic police to manage traffic congestion and also to make the college road one way.

“We will ensure that situation of traffic jam unlike today do not arise again during the exam days that could be a great source of inconvenience to the residents of the area,” said principal.

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal university annual examinations at the DAV (PG) College, the biggest college of the university, will get underway from March 20 and will last till June 3. The admit cards for various streams would be handed over to the students three days ahead of their respective examinations.

Dr. Ashok Kumar Saxena, principal of DAV (PG) College, said they are taking all steps to hold free and fair examinations.

He said, “Our top priority would be to curb the use of unfair means by the students during the examination”. The college administration would be putting up barricades alongside classrooms to stop any kind of communication from outside.

A college flying squad has also been formed which would be visiting classes at the college premises during the examination.

This would be the first time this year that the examinations for private and regular students would held together at the college premises. Due to superfluous students capacity of 20,000 students, the college has to look into the seating arrangements for the students.

“To meet the seating requirements, premises of the nearby DBS College would also be utilised for holding the examination. The college administration had also made an extra space of 500 seats in the college to accommodate students,” Kumar said.

He further informed that for avoiding traffic congestion near college premises, traffic police would be deployed and the entire traffic on the college road would be made one-way.

Saxena also made a special request to the students to wear floaters during the examination to enable the flying squad in easy checking during the examination.

The admit cards for various streams have also made available on the net for the college students, for which they have to log on to the college website.

But the students who access their admit cards through net have to bring along their identity card, fee receipt and library clearance slip on the day of examination.

Dr. RM Saxena has been appointed as the chief examination controller,

Dr. Atul Kumar as deputy examination controller and Dr. AM Chaturvedi the chief protector would also be supervising the conduct of examination proceedings.
