Govt mulls law to regularise colonies
Panipat, February 27 Addressing a public rally, Hooda said the government was committed to the welfare of all sections of society. Having a dig at the BJP-INLD alliance, Hooda said people would not benefit from the alliance, which had been formed for vested interests. Highlighting the “people-friendly” measures taken by the government, the Chief Minister said several taxes imposed by the previous governments had been withdrawn by the present regime and despite this development works had not been affected. He said people should consider the development works undertaken by the state government before casting their votes in the Lok Sabha elections. Hooda said the government had formed a policy for acquiring farm land for commercial purposes keeping in mind that innocent farmers were not exploited by business houses. Venod Sharma, head of the campaign committee for the Lok Sabha elections, said the country and the state had witnessed unprecedented development during the rule of the Congress. President of the HPCC Phool Chand Mullana said the party was fully geared up to contest the Lok Sabha elections. He said previous governments in the state had “looted” the people. However, the Hooda government had put an end to such practices. Member of Parliament from the Karnal constituency Arvind Sharma said the Congress was confident of winning all 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Working president of the state Congress Kuldip Sharma said despite global economic slowdown, the “visionary approach” of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had not allowed it to affect the country’s economy. |
Tension in village as dera opposes congregation
Fatehabad, February 27 The dera followers, who had been demanding cancellation of the programme by Dadu, had later announced to hold a parallel naam charcha from February 28 to March 2 in the village to put pressure on the authorities concerned in this regard. A meeting of the peace committee was called here today by Deputy Commissioner JS Ahlawat to find out a solution. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were promulgated in the village and the police has been deployed to avoid any untoward situation. After the meeting, Ahlawat said he had denied permission of holding programmes to both the parties though he admitted that neither had formally applied for permission. While the dera followers have now announced the cancellation of their proposed naam charcha after the orders of the authorities, Baljit Singh Dadu announced that his programme would be organised as per schedule. “We neither seek permission nor need permission of the authorities for organising “Gurumat Sammagam” within the confines of gurdwaras,” Dadu added. The dera followers, however, alleged that Dadu had been vitiating the peaceful atmosphere of the area by giving inflammatory speeches against the dera chief during such sammagams. “Even during his sammagam in Talwara village recently, Dadu uttered derogatory remarks against the dera chief in presence of the police. We had cancelled our naam charcha on the appeal of the authorities and we expect the authorities to enforce a ban on Dadu’s sammagam or at least ban his entry into the village,” said Narsi Dass Goyal, a member of the local committee of the Dera Sacha Sauda. |
Issue not to affect Cong
poll prospects: Venod
Bhanu P Lohumi Tribune News Service
Assandh, February 27 Issues like regularisation of guest teachers and a separate SGPC for the state would not affect the poll prospects of the Congress as these had almost been resolved, he told The Tribune in an exclusive interview. At a workers’ meeting organised by Sardar Raghubeer Singh Virk, Sharma, who was here to gear up Congress workers for the Lok Sabha elections, said the Chatha Committee had already submitted its report on a separate SGPC and the Chief Minister had constituted a three-member committee to study the legal aspects of the report. Similarly, the issue of regularisation of guest teachers was being sorted out and an amicable solution was on the cards, he added. Sharma expressed concern over the shortage of sugarcane for crushing and observed that if farmers were not growing sugarcane in spite of the highest MSP of Rs 185 per quintal, it was evident that they found growing wheat and rice more remunerative. On the issue of lifting the ban on export of non-basmati, Sharma said he supported the demand if it really helped the growers but the Central Government alone was competent to take any decision on the issue. Asked about the status of former Deputy Chief Minister Chand Mohammad in the party, he evaded a direct answer and said, “Where is he, have you seen him?” Sharma, who is addressing workers’ meetings in different constituencies, was accompanied by Karnal MP Arvind Sharma, working president of the HPCC Kuldeep Sharma and MLAs Sumita Singh and Tajender Singh Mann. State Finance Minister Birender Singh was also in Assandh to mobilise people for the March 1 rally of Sonia Gandhi. |
Power nigam fails to present ARR
Chandigarh, February 27 The public then gheraoed the car of HERC Chairman Bhaskar Chatterjee and refused to let go till they were given an assurance that a new date for the public hearing would be announced after the power distribution company submits its revised ARR. The dharna was lifted after HERC member Tej Singh Tewatia came and assured the public. “The power distribution companies have made a mockery of the system of public hearing of
ARRs. Yesterday, officials of the UHBVN too had failed to bring their revenue requirement and today officials of the DHBVN have followed suit. It just proves that they are working under directions of the state government for not presenting their
ARRs, which show a huge gap in revenue and expenditure. Since they have to bridge this gap by increasing the power tariff, they are not presenting the
ARRs. The worst is that an independent quasi judicial body like the HERC is working on the directions of the government and has failed to take any notice of the MDs’ absence and failure to present
ARRs,” said Sampat Singh, senior INLD leader and former Finance Minister. Earlier, while putting the public concern before the
HERC, Sampat Singh and MP Ajay Singh Chautala insisted time and again that the Managing Director of the DHBVN be ordered to appear before the commission. When HERC Chairman Bhaskar
Chatterjee, a former bureaucrat, insisted that he would talk to the MD after the hearing was over, Sampat Singh said: “Chatterjee, you had a spine when you were a Financial Commissioner with the Haryana government. Why and who are you afraid of, tell us… we will provide you
protection.” Chautala too thundered as he said the HERC had failed in its prime responsibility to protect the consumers’ interests. “While honest citizens are forced to pay bills, Haryana government ministers are blatantly indulging in power theft. While large-scale power theft is going on in a minister’s house in Panchkula, whose son got married yesterday, power theft is also being done at other minister’s houses,” he said. The two leaders also objected to the DHBVN’s decision to buy less power on short term basis in the coming fiscal, citing the reason of paucity of funds. “If you check power theft, then you will have enough resources to buy power and meet the growing demand of consumers,” said
Chautala. |
