Tribune News Service

Dehradun, January 27
The Dehradun police has arrested the suspect who had decamped with a brass idol, two canopies and some cash from a temple in Jain Dharamshala on Gandhi Road two days ago.

The suspect has been identified as Suresh Butela (22), son of Bhagwan Butela, one of the staff members of the Jain Dharmshala.

SSP Dehradun, Kumar Vishwajweet, said that the CCTV footage revealed that the suspect had remained inside the temple for almost one and a half hour.

“During questioning, the watchman had told the police that he did not spotted any person going inside or coming out of the temple. So, it was almost certain that the culprit is someone from the inside,” he said.

Reacting strongly to the chakka jaam by the members of the Jain community in protest against the theft, the SSP said that the blockade only troubled common people.

“In order to discourage such unhealthy practices, we have decided to initiate legal action against those who resort to such things in the future,” added Vishwajeet.
