Cops charge 5 in GK blast case
New Delhi, December 18 The five have been charged, specifically for the blast in Greater Kailash-I (GK-I), with various offences, including waging war against the state and attempt to murder, under the Indian Penal Code, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Substance Act. The charges were filed before chief metropolitan magistrate Kaveri Baweja against Mohd Shakeel, Zia-ur-Rehman, Saquib Nissar, Mohd Saif and Zeeshan. The next date of hearing is December 20. Zia-ur-Rehman, Saqib Nissar and Mohammad Shakeel were arrested from Batla House in Jamia Nagar. They are natives of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh. Mohd Saif and Zeeshan were arrested by the Delhi police special cell on September 19. The accused have not been charged for murder as there was no casualty in the GK-1 blast. The police alleged that Atif Ameen, the alleged leader of the Indian Mujahideen, and Zunaid had planted the bomb in the South Delhi market. Ameen and Mohammed Sajid were gunned down in a gunbattle with the police in Jamia Nagar, while Zunaid is still absconding, the police said. The first chargesheet in the Delhi serial blasts was filed on Wednesday by the police for Karol Bagh blasts. The police said investigations revealed that 22 people were involved in carrying out the serial blasts in the Capital. Twelve of the accused are still to be traced, the police said, adding that one accused, Mohammed Mansoor Peerbhoy, is in the custody of Mumbai police. The police told the court that it would file a supplementary chargesheet later against two accused — Sadiq Sheikh, an alleged co-founder of Indian Mujahideen, and Quamuddin — who were arrested two days after the serial blasts. Sadiq Sheikh was arrested in Mumbai while Quamuddin was arrested in Ujjain. Ten days later, another alleged bomber Arif Qadir was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police. Some of the absconding members of the module were identified as Shadaab alias Malik, Shehzaad alias Pappu, Salman, Ariz Khan, Mohammad Sajid and Mohammad Khalid. The chargesheet refers to the involvement of this module also in the serial blasts at Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad and the fact that they procured explosives for the Delhi blasts from Karnataka.

Cong leader’s murder solved, claims police
Ghaziabad, December 18 Superintendent of police (city) Vijay Bhushan told a press conference that Bhagmal, who was involved in the murder of a Sadarpur resident Anil Chaudhary and was lodged in prison, hatched the conspiracy in jail to eliminate Tyagi. Bhushan said that local people tried for a compromise between the families of Bhagmal and Anil but Pradeep Tyagi and two others - Subhash and Brahmpal - created snags. Bhagmal was annoyed about it. Then, Bhagmal and Anil Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, made a plan in the jail to eliminate the Congress leader. Bhushan said that on December 11, Anil Tyagi and Raju Pandit alias Pathan called up Pradeep Tyagi at his residence. Their accomplice Sudhir Tyagi waited away from the house. When they confirmed that the leader was at his house and Pradeep Tyagi’s wife Anuradha went to call him out, they called Sudhir Tyagi who was waiting for their signal. Sudhir fired twice at Pradeep Tyagi and all the three fled the spot. Pradeep Tyagi died while being taken to Yashoda hospital. Yogesh Tyagi, the brother of Bhagmal knew the entire plan and he was picked up for questioning. He died in police custody. Pradeep Tyagi’s wife Anuradha Tyagi and son Kunal Tyagi had earlier contradicted the police theory. They maintained that there were harmonious relations between the families. — IANS |

New Delhi, December 18 Recalling the incident, Daisy said that it was their first night at Sikandarpur, DLF Phase I, Gurgaon, as they had shifted in just that day and had gone to sleep by 10.30 pm. However, the duo heard a loud bang on their door with male voices including his landlords asking them to open the door. When they asked them to come in the morning, the drunken landlord and his friends barged open the door. “Even as they were trying to open the door, we dialed 100 couple of times but to no avail,” stressed Daisy. What followed then was a flurry of events - three men asking for sexual favours from the girls, on refusing, they were beaten with sticks and then molested. One of them, Mary, managed to escape, but Daisy could not. The men then vented their anger on Daisy. “They kept threatening to rape me besides abusing and severely bruising and beating me,” said Daisy. Even as the landlord and his men were sexually molesting Daisy, the police arrived and took the two girls to hospital for medical examination. “However, our ordeal had just began and when the policemen learnt that we did not have money, they admitted only me and not Mary,” said Daisy. She further alleged that the police inspector refused to mention ‘sexually harassed’ in the FIR that they wanted to lodge. When the duo returned to their place, their valuables including camera and money were missing. Daisy said that all along the incident, there was no lady constable with them. After all this, the culprits are still roaming free. “We demand that they should be immediately arrested and booked under appropriate sections of IPC and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,” demanded Daisy. “The police has always been indifferent to people from North East and get influenced by money power. And so, innocent people are being harassed while the culprits roam free, said Lansiglu Rongemi, an advocate and member of the North East Support Centre. She sited incident in the past when the girls from North East were ill treated but nobody was booked. Talking about the efforts being made to reduce the gap between demand and supply of power in the state, the minister said 697 MW would be generated from bio-mass, solar, wind and hydro-based projects. The project will be implemented in 25 schools in every district and energy soldiers would be trained to prevent power theft. |
185 voters shown in one family
Greater Noida, December 18 Two explanations are being offered for this faux pas–either the political leaders have shown their supporters in exaggerated form or some untrained staff in election office have mixed up the numbers. The additional district magistrate has asked Dadri SDM to probe the error. The election office has shown that there are 185 persons living in House No. 185 vide part 142 of new voters’ list of Dadri. Similarly in House No. 108 also, votes of 60 persons have been made. Besides, there are some people whose voters’ ID cards have been made though their names do not figure in voters’ lists. According to sources, Dadri no longer has such large families in one household. As a matter of fact, a number of peons, hawkers, etc were assigned election work, the sources say. That is why such howlers are found. Some sources say it could be due to the influence of political leaders who might have been keen to swell their vote bank with fake votes for the coming Lok Sabha election. ADM (finance) Shrikant Divedi said cases of large number of voters in single households have come to his notice, which could be due to the carelessness of the staff. He has asked sub-divisional magistrate Dadri, Somya Srivastav, to investigate. |
BSP banking on youth for LS poll
Faridabad, December 18 The party candidate from Faridabad, Chetan Sharma, a former cricket player, said here today that although his party would seek support of every section of the society, it would focus more on the youths. According to him, as a player and one representing the youth section, he was more concerned about them. Sharma said that he was sad to see large number of unemployed youths in Faridabad district despite of the fact that this place was among the first 10 industrial cities in the country not many years ago. He attributed the problem of unemployment to the lost pace of industrialisation and closure or flight of a number of industrial units from Faridabad in the past few years. He said that if BSP was voted to power, he and the local unit of the organisation would try to get the problem of unemployement redressed. In response to a question, he said that he did not belong to the traditional class of politicians. The people of Faridabad have been giving him overwhelming response during his tours and public meetings, he added. In reply to another question, he said that the BSP appealed him most as it represented the urge of modern India. Dwelling on the issue, he said that presently there was churning in the country’s polity, with caste taboos and shibboleths being gradually discarded. The BSP supremo and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, has successfully launched the party’s strategy of “social engineering”, he added. |

Even dancing on the New Year’s Eve after heavy meals can precipitate heart attack in susceptible individuals.
