Post-Mumbai terror attacks, the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital has banned indoor patients, medical representatives and other visitors from carrying laptops inside the hospital premises as a precautionary step.

Having failed to evoke any action from the top politicians of the city and senior officials of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) in taking up repair work of a badly damaged road in the H block of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, a colony developed by the trust, the residents took it upon themselves to do the job rather than just raising slogans and blaming the government and the trust administration.

Tuition is not the prerogative of the rich. The wards of the labour class also go in for tuitions and their charges are as low as Rs 100 to Rs 150 per child. There are teachers in the city who take up tuitions for the labour class children only. For them it is killing two birds with one stone, as they ask these children to come for tuitions and side-by-side, force them do their domestic chores like dusting, cleaning of the house and utensils.
