Dechen Yangdol, a student who visited the Sector 17 football and Sector 16 cricket stadium, said: “I was told that no girls have been entertained so far in cricket. When I insisted, they asked me to come for trial and then I would be given a form on the basis of my performance. But there is no such guideline for boys.”

The third annual Chandigarh theatre festival-2008 organised by the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy concluded with the incredibly boisterous staging of a thought-provoking musical play “Mere hisse ki dhoop kahan hai” at Tagore Theatre here today. Veteran Akali leader and the newly-appointed chairman of Asia’s largest cooperative, Punjab Markfed, Jarnail Singh Wahid, has ‘revival’ of Markfed and giving it a new look at the top of his agenda and has chalked out a number of ambitious plans to make the organisation more “farmer friendly”.

Bank employees to boycott co-operative day

The Mini Bank Karamchari Mahasangh, Haryana, has decided to launch a state-level stir against the Haryana Government for not fulfilling their pending demands since last couple of years. Informing this, Narinder Kumar, district president, and Pawan Kumar of the mahasangh said in a meeting of the mahasangh, chaired by Rajesh Hooda, president, and Sohan Lal Gupta, general secretary, it was decided unanimously that keeping in view the adamant attitude of the government towards the employees of the mini banks, they would boycott the state-level function of the co-operative day to be held on November 19 in Sonipat.

HC breather for Tahar Singh

Finally, Punjab and Haryana High Court advocate Tahar Singh can heave a sigh of relief. The division bench of Justice M.M. Kumar and Justice Surya Kant yesterday ruled that the order vide which Tahar  Singh was remanded in CBI custody and ordered to be taken to Agra Mental Hospital will not be given effect to any further.

Man booked for raping minor
Panchkula, November 15
The Raipur Rani police has booked a resident of Badona Khurd village for allegedly raping a minor girl here today. The accused, identified as Ram Karan, is father of two children.

Two cars stolen
Chandigarh, November 15
Neeru Chugh, a resident of Sector 30, filed a complaint with the police alleging that her Maruti car (HR-03-F-4402) was stolen from outside Kisan Bhavan, Sector 36, on November 13. A case has been registered at the police station-36.

3 booked for assault
Panchkula, November 15
The local police has booked three persons for allegedly thrashing their employee here today. Safreet Singh, a resident of Sector 15, lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday that Kailash, Pawan and Pankaj, who run a recovery agency in Sector 12, had beaten up his son Sanjiv on November 8.

In an exhilarating semifinal encounter, MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36, prevailed over Government College for Girls, Sector 11, by 2-0 to register a berth in the final of the Panjab University Inter-College Ball Badminton (Women) Tournament being played at PU grounds here today.
Earlier in the quarterfinal, GCG-11 had beaten Dev Samaj College for Women by 2-1 and MCMDAV-36 had beaten Khalsa College for Women, Ludhiana, by 2-0 to enter the semifinal.

1,000 securitymen to take part
