SI Arrest Case
A question of answers
Chandigarh, November 8
Several questions are being raised following the arrest of SI Sanjeev Kumar by the CBI in an alleged corruption case. Incidentally, the CBI arrest came at a time when the UT police was already looking into the complaint filed by Arvind Kumar Pandey on whose complaint the CBI has initiated action.

Central Club in trouble again
Chandigarh, November 8
In yet another blow to the Sector 9 Central Club management, the Chandigarh administration is in the process of slapping a recovery notice on it to the tune of Rs 1.26 crore as due rent. The move comes following the administration’s decision to take the possession of the club after taking cognisance of the alleged blatant misuse of the premises and violations of the allotment conditions.

Following the failure of DAV, Sector 8, authorities to furnish the inquiry report on the incident of alleged sodomy of a Class VI student, the UT education department has served a fresh notice to school, asking it to provide the same at the earliest.

Illegal structures coming up, GMADA sleeps

Increasing land prices around Mohali have spurred illegal construction activity. Right under the nose of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, unscrupulous elements have raised unauthorised structures in Balongi, Kharar, Zirakpur and Derabassi. Around 350 such colonies exist on the city’s periphery.

Market areas of Phases-II and III-A have virtually been turned into bus stands by operators of long-distance private buses, much to the annoyance of shopkeepers. Repeated requests over the years to the authorities concerned have failed to yield any results.

Grant released for govt school

Chief parliamentary secretary Raj Khurana has released a grant of Rs 2.57 lakh for the government school in Khanpur Baring village. Speaking during the occasion he said Rs 1.21 crore would be spent on various developmental works in Rajpura. These works include broadening of roads to reduce accidents and other developmental works.

3 get life imprisonment for murder
Chandigarh, November 8
Additional district and sessions judge R.S. Attri today sentenced Mewa Ram, Sucha Ram and Darshan Singh to life imprisonment for murdering one Raju at the district courts. The court also convicted the trio for suppressing evidence under Section 201 of the IPC.

Man booked under Dowry Act
Chandigarh, November 8
Saneha Garg, a resident of Mullanpur, filed a complaint with the police alleging that her husband Parveen Kumar, a resident of Behlana, harassed and maltreated her to bring more dowry. A case has been registered under Sections 406, 498-A of the IPC at the Sector 31 police station.

520 cartons of liquor seized

Despite claims of the UT excise department of having curtailed permits given to liquor contractors, the Mohali police today seized a huge cache of liquor being smuggled from the UT to Bathinda.
