Late Night Shocker
58 PU teachers relieved of post

Chandigarh, November 1
Complying with the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, wherein the court refused to enhance the retirement age of Panjab University teachers to 62 years, the authorities in a late-night development, dispatched relieving orders to all 58 teachers. Sources said the VC had sent the orders to the teachers at around 11 pm, much to their shock.

Car dealers flout rules

In violation of motor vehicle rules, car dealers in the region are selling cars on the basis of trade certificate issued by the respective transport authority. Unsuspecting customers, who are told that it is a temporary number document, realise the grave irregularity when they approach the vehicle registration authority.

Depressed youth hangs himself
Chandigarh, November 1
Dilbagh Singh (23), alias Vikas, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan at his house in Kishangarh here this afternoon. The police said Dilbagh, a junior engineer with the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, was not well and suffered from depression.

In a move to make the city polythene-free, the UT administration had banned the use, sale, transportation and disposal of polythene and plastic carry bags by any person in the city.

UT engineers told to complete road links

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has taken up the issue of missing link with the UT engineering department. To begin with, the UT engineering department has been asked to complete the road link between sectors 50 and 51. It would ultimately link the road dividing sectors 62 (Phase VIII) and 63 (Phase IX).

Shakuntla Devi, a 50-year-old woman was crushed to death while crossing the highway road in Lalru on Saturday. According to police, Shakuntla, was a resident of village Naseer, who was running a grocery store.

Projects pending since 8 months

Various projects of the department of public health are lying pending in Kalka, Pinjore since more than eight months. The official sources of the department revealed that in villages Lohgarh, Khara Pathar, Vasdevpura, Paploha, Peepal Ghati, several projects related to lying of pipelines of the recently installed tube wells have been fanning fire after Feburary 2007, due to the shortage of pipelines.

3 arrested for creating ruckus in hospital

The local police arrested three youths for creating ruckus at the emergency ward of the General Hospital, Sector 6, here today.
