Protest against FDI hike in insurance sector

The cabinet today decided to hike the foreign direct investment in the insurance sector from 26 per cent to 49 per cent and to raise the equity from Rs 5 to 10 crore.

Reacting strongly to the continuing attacks on North Indians and killing of two migrants in Mumbai, the labour wing of the Shiromani Youth Akali Dal (Badal) today held a protest march from Sherpur to the mini-secretariat where a common effigy of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, union home minister Shiv Raj Patil, Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackarey and state home minister R.R. Patil was burnt.

The city police has arrested a gang leader and two other of the alleged murder of Vijay Kumar which took place on October 23 at Salem Tabri.

Cyclist run over by bus
Raikot, October 31
A cyclist was killed after being hit by a bus here today. The deceased, identified as Sewa Singh (65), a resident of Burj Hari Singh Wala village, was going on his cycle from Noorpura village. The incident occurred when a Ludhiana-bound Orbit bus, coming from Bathinda, hit the deceased while he was crossing the road. The driver of the bus, Sulakhan Singh, said the accident occurred when he tried to save some children on the road.

4 booked for beating up disabled

The Khanna police today booked four residents of village Kotla for beating up a physically challenged man, his wife and mother.

Rahul to lead T20 squad

Rahul Verma has been named captain of the Ludhiana squad to take part in the forthcoming Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Punjab State Inter-District Twenty20 Cricket Tournament to be held at Jaito in Faridkot district from November 2 to 9, the president of the Ludhiana District Twenty20 Cricket Association, Amarveer Singh, said.
