Seminar on medicine: A seminar on physical medicine was organised for doctors by the Mohali unit of the IMA here on Wednesday. The event was presided over by Mandeep Singh Sandhu, secretary health-cum-managing director, Punjab Health Systems Corporation. Dr A.K. Joy Singh gave a lecture on physiotherapy and told how to effectively cure backache with the help of physiotherapy without taking any medicines. Dr S.S. Bhatia, president of IMA, presented a vote of thanks to the participating doctors. Raising Day: The Defence Accounts Pensioners Welfare Association celebrated the Raising Day of its department here on Wednesday. President Jagtar Singh said the department was 260 years old and was one of the oldest departments of the Government of India. He highlighted the achievements of the department made during the years. Navratra celebrations: More than 25,000 devotees visited Mata Mansa Devi temple on the first Navratra here on Tuesday. While a total of Rs 4 lakh and 45 thousand were offered by the devotees to the deity, gold and silver, in addition to clocks, fans, clothes, ghee and other articles, were found in the offerings. A bhajan programme would be presented by Agnihotri brothers at the temple on Thursday at 8.30 pm.

HPSSB member: Jai Kishan Chauhan was administered the oath as a member of the Himachal Pradesh Service Selection Board (HPSSB) by board chairman Harbans Kumar Sharma here on Wednesday. Chauhan has been teaching law in Punjab for several years. He has also authored a book on law. BSNL schemes: BSNL general manger S.L. Singh has said that the nigam is launching several new schemes for bank and public sector employees of the state and the Central Government. Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, he said the plan would be open till November 14. By including all these categories of employees, the number of subscriber under the plan would reach 60,000. He said BSNL was also launching rent-free landline phone connections for rural customers. NAHAN
Road accident: Foujdar Singh, a resident of Gorakh Pur in Uttar Pradesh, was reportedly killed on the spot in an accident here on Tuesday. The incident took place when his motorcycle had a head-on collision with a truck coming from the opposite direction at the Vishwa Karma Chowk in Paonta. Driver of the truck Ramesh has been arrested.

Krishi vikas yojna: The state has received a sum of Rs 15.11 crore under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna for starting new innovative projects. This was stated by chief secretary Asha Swaroop while presiding over the state-level sanctioning committee convened by the Department of Agriculture. The scheme has been started to increase the investment in agriculture and allied sectors leading to four per cent growth in this sector,

Woman dies: A woman reportedly died here on Tuesday as she fell into a gorge while cutting grass in Karsog subdivision of Mandi district. She has been identified as Meera Devi (26) of Kheneri village. On receiving information, the police recovered the body and handed it over to her relatives on Wednesday.

Implement pay panel report: Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, state CPM secretary, has urged the state administration to implement the Sixth Pay Commission report after removing "disparities" at the earliest. Resident rue water shortage: Residents of Kishtwar on Tuesday staged a demonstration in protest against failure of the authorities concerned to restore water supply in some parts of the town, demanding strict action against officers of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department responsible for the acute shortage of drinking water. The residents ended the protest only after senior PHE and police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating people. They assured to restore water supply within 24 hours. A large number of residents of Kishtwar took out a procession against the shortage of drinking water.
