Ad hoc gurdwara panel opposes Badal’s meeting in Karnal
Tribune Reporters
Yamunanagar, August 22 The committed said Badal, who did not enjoy the support of Sikhs in the state, would bring SAD supporters from Punjab that might lead to disturbance and create law and order problem. A large number of Sikhs of the state had already submitted affidavits to the committee demanding a separate gurdwara body, senior vice-president of the Haryana SGPC (ad hoc) Joga Singh said after holding a meeting with other members of the committee here today. “We have appealed to the Haryana government not to allow Badal to hold a Sikh congregation. Badal fumed at the fact that the Haryana government had decided to bring an act for the formation of a separate Haryana SGPC in the coming assembly session, which will begin from September 1,” he added. He said it was the constitutional right of the Sikhs of Haryana to have a separate body to look into the affairs of the gurdwaras of the state. KAITHAL: Sikhs spearheading the movement for a separate gurdwara management body for Haryana will not rest till a separate Sikh gurdwara committee is constituted in the state. This was stated by Avtar Singh Chakku, a member of the SGPC (ad hoc), Haryana, and Sarjit Singh, president of the local Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, while talking to mediapersons here on Thursday. They said the Haryana government should fulfill its promise made to Haryana Sikhs during the last Assembly elections that a separate SGPC would be constituted for the state. They asked if there could be a separate body for Delhi why not for Haryana. Sikh leaders said it was strange that SAD leaders - Parkash Singh Badal and others - had been opposing the formation of a separate SGPC for Haryana due to political reasons as they had been misusing the SGPC to achieve their political objects over the years. He said many SAD leaders had claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not in favour of a separate gurdwara body for Haryana. He further said such statements were a bundle of lies as SAD leaders never supported Manmohan Singh during the last vote of confidence in Lok Sabha and Akalis stood by the BJP when Manmohan Singh’s government was in political crisis. |
Makkar dares Congress
Karnal, August 22 Makkar, who was here to flag off a “jagriti yatra” from Dera Kar Sewa and to hold meetings with religious heads of different organisations in connection with the August 30 rally, said the Sikhs knew how to protect their rights. He claimed that Sikhs across the globe had faith in the SGPC and it was only a few in the state who were demanding a separate body as they had some vested interests. The SGPC chief accused Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of “engineering” the idea of a separate body to manage the seven gurdwaras in the state that were at present run by the SGPC. Makkar had even met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and requested him not to allow any such move. The SGPC chief said as per the Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1925, the gurdwaras in Haryana fell under the jurisdiction of the SGPC and it was the prerogative of the committee to run their affairs. Denying allegations of a stepmotherly treatment being meted out to Sikhs of Haryana, Makkar said the SGPC had been making huge budgetary provisions every year to develop gurdwaras in the state. The SGPC was even coming up with Rs a 150 crore medical education institution at Shahbad, but the Congress government in the state was deliberately creating hurdles in its way by not approving building plans for the project. He said the August 30 rally would show that Sikhs in the state were with the SGPC. Meanwhile, Jagdish Singh Jhinda said the formation of a separate SGPC was the religious and legal right of the Sikhs in the state. |

Chhatterpati for transfer of trial against dera chief
Chandigarh, August 22 Anshul has also urged the CBI director to move court to cancel the bail granted to the dera chief. He released copies of letters written by him to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as the CBI director to mediapersons here today. In his letter to the Chief Justice, Anshul pointed out that it was he who had moved the High Court in 2003 seeking the transfer of investigation into his father’s murder to the CBI on the grounds that the Haryana government was trying to shield the main conspirator. The court had allowed his petition. He said the state government had urged the High Court to transfer the cases against the dera chief from Ambala to Sirsa on the grounds of public inconvenience and security threat to the dera head. Anshul said the state government should have taken into confidence the CBI and the complainants before making this request to the High Court. Urging the Chief Justice to turn down the government’s plea, he said the court should hear all parties before taking any decision. In his letter to the CBI director, Anshul regretted that the CBI failed to challenge the bail granted to the dera chief despite knowing that a fair and free trial was not expected as long as the the dera head was not put behind the bars. He urged the CBI to take necessary legal steps for seeking the transfer of the trial against the dera chief and others to a state other than Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, which had a large concentration of followers of the dera. |
