19 girls hurt as cab collides with mini truck
Ambala, August 2 The injured include Vandna, Binder, Manju, Pooja, Teena, Rajni, Gurpreet, Manpreet, Harjinder, Monika, Sonia, Geeta, Sulochna, Tarsem and Sunita. According to information, most of the injured belonged to Haldrehri and Sambhalkhi villages and worked at a mushroom producing factory in Lalru. The vehicle belonged to the factory and was used to pick up the girls from their villages early morning everyday. "The vehicle has seating capacity of hardly 10 persons, but generally 15 to 18 girls are accommodated in it," said an injured Manpreet adding that there were 19 girls in the vehicle when the vehicle overturned after colliding with the truck. The villagers and police officials present there transported the injured to civil hospital, she further said. The parents of the inured were annoyed over the apathetic attitude of the hospital authority. Manpreet’s father Baljeet said the girls were brought to the hospital at around 7 in the morning, but till 12 noon, no x-ray of those girls, who suspected to have fractures, was done. Strangely neither the civil surgeon nor any senior officer of the district administration visited the hospital to monitor the medical assistance. Several guardians of the girls rued that it was the moral duty of the factory officers to reach the hospital immediately and provide the required assistance to its injured employees, but none had turned up till noon. Pooja and Vandna said the hospital did not provide them even the emergency medicine and they were asked to purchase it from a private chemist. There was only one junior doctor on duty to attend the 19 injured. Every injured should have been provided a separate bed, but two to three injured were adjusted on on some beds, they rued. The staff nurse on duty was the lone individual who was delivering her duty sincerely, they added. |

ISI agent nabbed
Patiala, August 2 The police was not forthcoming on Bhatti and circumstances which, led to his arrest early in the morning from his Khalsa College Colony residence, but sources revealed he was an ISI agent and could be behind the blasts in Gujarat recently. Bhatti was living in Patiala with assumed name of Dev Raj Sehgal for three years and he ran a computer centre in the name of Punjab Online Computers near Gopal Sweets complex with ease for one year. Bhatti was running computer centre at first floor of the Surya Complex.Bhatti, it was learnt, was arrested under in joint operation of intelligence agencies and a team of Jagraon police which, reached here early in the morning and took Bhatti in custody from his home after informing the local police in
this regard. Bhatti was learnt to have been booked under Section 24 of the Official Secrets Act, Sections 419, 511 and 123 of the IPC, Sections of the Indian Passport Act and the Foreigners Act 1946. Sources, revealed he was nabbed for supplying sensitive Army information to Pakistan’s ISI apart from being a suspect in Gujarat bomb blast case. Bhatti, police sources said, hailed from Kasur district of Pakistan and had been in Punjab for three years. |

Youth falls from train, dies
Lalru, August 2 According to the railway police, Deepak, a resident of Ambala, worked with a private company in Chandigarh. He was travelling from Ambala to Chandigarh. At around 8.30 am, a passer-by informed the police that a man was spotted lying near the railway track. The police reached the spot immediately and took the victim to the Dera Bassi civil hospital where doctor referred him to the PGI. Deepak later died in the hospital. The police informed his family. The body would be handed over to the family after the postmortem tomorrow. |

Nine-year-old boy electrocuted
Dera Bassi, August 2 Sources revealed that the boy got stuck to the wires and residents called up the electricity board officials to stop the power supply. The boy suffered serious burn injuries and was rushed to the Dera Bassi civil hospital from where he was shifted to the PGI. His condition is critical. Residents alleged that the high-tension wires had slackened and were hanging close to the roofs of many houses. They had complained about it to the PSEB officials many times, but in vain, they added. |

Passport Scam
Chandigarh, August 2 Lucky along with his mother, brother and an acquaintance assaulted the raiding policemen in broad daylight and fled from the spot, leaving the cops red-faced. According to sources, acting on a tip-off from the UT’s crime branch, the Kapurthala police raided the home of one of Lucky’s acquaintances yesterday afternoon to arrest him. Lucky, who was booked by the Chandigarh police for stealing passports, cheating and forging documents, is a proclaimed offender. Sources said the Chandigarh police had informed the special wing of the Kapurthala police about Lucky’s plans to visit his acquaintance, Buta Singh, at his home in Ajit Nagar. The Kapurthala police was informed at about 4:15 pm. It immediately sent head constable Labh Singh to the spot. Talking to The Tribune, Labh Singh said he knew Lucky by face and recognised him. “I told Lucky that he was wanted by the UT police and asked him to accompany me,” he said, adding that he (Lucky) did as he was told and offered no resistance at that moment. Narrating the sequence of events that led to the escape of Lucky, Labh Singh said on the way to the police station, Lucky told him that he had already obtained bail from the court and the documents were lying at his home, which was on the way. Believing him, Labh Singh stopped at his house and Lucky called his wife on the pretext of asking her to get the bail documents. Soon, Lucky’s mother, Gyan Kaur, accompanied by his brother Sudama and one Buta Singh came out. “On seeing me holding her son, Gyan Kaur pounced on me while Sudama caught hold of my waist. Seeing an opportunity, Lucky twisted my finger and managed to set himself free from my grip and sped away in his metallic Tata Indigo (PB-09H-0299),” said
Labh Singh. Describing Lucky, he added that he was an agile man in his mid-thirties, having a slim bearing. He wears a patka and is wanted by the police in several cases of cheating and human trafficking. He was booked in a case registered against him at the Raja Sansi police station. A case of obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty and assaulting a public servant has been registered against Lucky, Gyan Kaur, Sudama and Buta Singh in this

Man hangs himself to death
Chandigarh, August 2 The victim was said to be addicted to liquor and was married two years ago. According to the police, the 32-year-old man was found hanging when members of his family broke open the door of his room this morning. His wife Savita Devi was the first one to notice her husband hanging. She immediately informed the other members of the family and the police. Sources said the couple had a strained relationship for a couple of years. They also had a fight yesterday. |

2 held for detaining septuagenarian couple; freed on bail
Panchkula, August 2 According to the police, the accused, who owned a house, had struck a deal to sell their house with the victim, Noria Ram. While the deal was struck for Rs 1 crore, the accused received Rs 35 lakh as advance money and allowed the couple to live in two rooms on the first floor of the house till the formalities with HUDA were pending and final payment was made. However, last evening, the accused, along with other two women, locked the couple in their house on the first floor and even snapped their electricity and water supply when their son Kishan Kumar was not at home, said the police. Even the police party faced resistance from the accused when it reached the spot on the complaint of Kishan, said SHO Mukesh Kumar. The help of locals was sought to get Noria Ram and his wife Chander Kalan released from the detention,
he said. A case under Sections 342, 506, 332, 353 and 34 of the IPC has been registered against the accused. |

2 girls rough up gym trainer
Chandigarh, August 2 According to an eyewitness, it was a scene straight out of a Bollywood film when two trainees at the gym thrashed their trainer, who won the Mr Haryana title in a body-building competition last year. At around 6 am, when the trainer was inside the gym for imparting training to aerobics students, two girls came by car and asked him to come out of the gym. Following a small altercation, the girls started slapping the trainer all of a sudden, said an eyewitness. It was also said that some guys also accompanied the girls. Somehow the guys didn’t intervene except watching the scene by standing nearby. The gym trainer admitted that the incident did take place. He said there was a misunderstanding, as he had not allowed that girl to stand in the front row during the aerobics class. “They wanted to bring disrepute to me professionally,” added the trainer. Meanwhile, members of the All-India Human Right Watch alleged that the UT police had failed to initiate action against the owner of the Prime Bodies Corporation, Sector 32, following a complaint of blackmailing lodged against the owner on July 31. The complainant had alleged that the owner of the gym - Amritpal Singh Malhotra - had made her MMS in 2006 after intoxicating her. The protesters threatened that in case the police failed to arrest the owner, they would approach the court. |

Body of 15-yr-old found
Chandigarh, August 2 Ruling out possibility of any foul play behind the death, the police said no visible injury mark was found on the body. Uttam’s body was highly decomposed. The body has been shifted to the Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, for the post-mortem. Har Sahai, SHO, Sector 3 police station, said there was no foul play. |
