Nirmaljit Kaur today became the first woman advocate from Punjab to be elevated as an additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Advocates Rajan Gupta, Ajay Tewari, Jatinder Kumar Chauhan and A.G. Masih, were also administered oath by Chief Justice Vijender Jain this afternoon.

Man acquitted in robbery case

After a trial lasting13 years, a local court yesterday acquitted Vishnu Sharma in a case of robbery and possessing an illegal weapon due to lack of evidence. The accused, though, was booked for possessing a pistol that was not mentioned in the FIR that was registered on the complaint of inspector Mani Ram.

7,500 teachers threaten statewide stir
Fatehgarh Sahib, July 10
Aided School Progressive Front of Punjab has decided to launch a stir against the government over non-issuance of salaries to 7,500 teachers in the state. The decision of launching the stir was taken at a state-level executive meeting under the presidentship of Upjit Singh Brar. The front decided to protest against the government if salaries of these teachers from aided schools were not released soon.
