Boy drowns in pit dug by PUDA

A 10-year-old migrant boy, Bittu Nayak, of Dugri village died here yesterday after drowning in a 10-12 ft pit dug by PUDA for the construction of a commercial complex in the Dugri area.

Candidates flout election code, deface property
Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 29Even the wall of the municipal council office in Mandi Ahmedgarh could not escape defacement during the campaigning for the MC polls.
Ignoring directions of the State Election Commission, supporters of candidates for the elections to the municipal council continued defacing public property by pasting posters on the walls of government buildings, electric poles and telephone panels.

Activists join hands for nature
Ludhiana, June 29An environmentalist shares his views on saving environment at SCD Government College in Ludhiana
Environmentalists from all over Punjab have decided to join hands to save environment instead of forming new joint action or working committees. Around 100 environmentalists, social workers, political activists, who took part in discussions on environment degradation at SCD Government College here today, stressed on protection and preservation of natural resources, including water, air, trees and earth.

With the local municipal council elections barely a few hours away, parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters in order to garner their support. Besides spending a huge amount of money on flags, hoardings and posters, the candidates are now alluring voters by wooing them in cash or kind. BCM XI trounce Scorpion XIA batsman plays a shot during a twenty20 match at Polytechnic College in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, June 29
BCM XI registered a convincing seven-wicket win over Scorpion XI on the inaugural day of the twenty20 cricket tournament played at the ground of Polytechnic College here today. Sixteen teams are taking part in the under-19 cricket tournament organised by the Ludhiana District 20-20 Cricket Association. Scorpion XI won the toss and elected to bat fist. The decision backfired as the team were bundled out for a paltry 76 runs in 19.3 overs.
