Tribune News Service

New Delhi, June 28
The CBI today claimed to have cracked the Arushi-Hemraj murder mystery as Raj Kumar, the domestic help of Talwars’ friends the Durranis, has confessed to his involvement in the twin murders. The CBI revealed about Raj Kumar’s confession to the crime before a special CBI court in Ghaziabad today which remanded him in 14-day CBI custody.

CBI officials told the Duty Magistrate at the court that Raj Kumar had confessed to switching off and destroying Aarushi’s mobile. The CBI counsel further added that Raj Kumar had agreed to help the investigating agency in recovering Hemraj’s mobile and the weapon used to commit the twin murders. Raj Kumar was arrested by the CBI yesterday after a forensic examination confirmed human bloodstains on a T-shirt recovered from his room. The T-shirt recovered from him has been sent to Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics for DNA profiling of the bloodstains as to whether they were that of Arushi or the domestic help Hemraj.

Raj Kumar worked as the domestic help of Dr Anita and Dr Prafulla Durrani, the doctor couple and close friends of Aarushi’s parents Dr Rajesh and Dr Nupur Talwar.

According to residents of Kanchenjanga apartments in Sector 53, where the Durranis lives, Rajkumar was a recluse and rarely interacted with other servants of the area. According to Hari Ram, a cigarette, bidi vendor of the area, “He did not smoke and was never seen in the company of other servants who often came to my shop in free times.”
