Two DRI officials hurt

The car of DRI officials that fell into Doraha canal in Ludhiana on Friday. Two officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) were injured when the car in which they were travelling fell into the Sidhwan canal near the Tibba Bridge on the Ludhiana-Sahnewal road today.

Woman lured into marriage, dumped
Ludhiana, April 11
A 23-year-old girl has alleged that she was “lured into a relationship” by a youth, who later married her at a gurdwara, but left her saying that “she was not made for him”.

Two booked for cultivating poppy
Mandi Ahmedgarh, April 11
Sarabjit Kaur of Khera village and Harvinder Singh of Sihar village have been booked for allegedly cultivating poppy crop in wheat fields at the village near here. No arrested has been yet so far.

Two injured in road accident
Jagraon, April 11
Avtar Singh of Agwar Dalla and his father, Bahudar Singh, sustained injuries when an oil tanker hit their tractor near Sidhwan Kallan. The police has registered a case under Sections 279, 337, 338 of the IPC. Avtar Singh was admitted to the local civil hospital while his father was referred to DMCH, Ludhiana.

Farmers rally against government’s move
Machhiwara, April 11
Farmers of Panjeta, Kot Gangu Rai, Koom Khurad, Rayeean and Bhaini Sahib villages organised a protest march to impress upon the authorities for dissolving the Bhaini Sahib-Rayian development board. Office-bearers of a few social and political organisations, while addressing a rally at Koom Kalan, assured to support farmers who apprehended that their 300 acre would be acquired by the government.

Govt to revamp education system in state: minister

Admitting that dragging of the state to sixteenth position in nation in terms of education is an alarming issue, education minister Dr Upinderjeet Kaur said the government would take aggressive measures to revamp the entire education system. Alleged defective policies were responsible for the situation, she held.

Hearing in City Centre scam case today
Ludhiana, April 11
The multi-crore City Centre Scam case would come up for hearing before the court of Sessions Judge G.K.Rai on April 12. Former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s counsel today moved an application before the court seeking directions to give specific time for scrutinising the file. The same would also be heard tomorrow by the court.

Food supplies controller gets pre-arrest bail
Ludhiana, April 11
Additional sessions judge Gurbir Singh granted anticipatory bail to district food supplies controller Simarjit Kaur in the alleged multi-crore paddy scam of Mullanpur today. Earlier, she was granted interim bail by the court.

70,000 Indian women die every year: Doctor
Ludhiana, April 11
At least 600,000 women die due to the pregnancy-related complications every year. Whereas, every seven minutes, one woman dies in India due to the pregnancy and childbirth-related complications. This adds up to about 70,000 women every year.

Dental implant course begins today

The International College of Continuing Dental Education (ICCDE) and the Punjab state branch of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) are jointly organising a two-day course on the mini-dental implants at Christian Dental College starting tomorrow.
