Need to expand dist administration
Ludhiana, March 20
This city has witnessed phenomenal expansion during the past three decades. According to 2001 census, the population of the district as a whole was more than 30 lakh and today the population of Ludhiana city alone is estimated at 35 lakh. It is pity that the expansion of the state administrative office has not kept pace with the expansion of the district as a whole.
‘Kick the meat habit’

JD Institute of Fashion Technology finds another reason to fashionably campaign against cruelty towards animals. The institute is urging its friends and neighbours to kick the meat habit by organising an exhibition of designs created by students using vegetable products here today. The theme of the exhibition was “Vegetarianism is in fashion”.

Critically ill woman needs help
Ludhiana, March 20
About a fortnight back, 20-year-old Dhanya, a native of Kerala, was admitted in the ICU of Christian Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition (Unit No- C 7128557). She was suffering from viral encephalitis with seizures and sepsis and needed ventilator support.

Doctors call for end to arms race

The 18th World Congress of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), hosted by the Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) from March 9 to 11, 2008, at New Delhi gave a call for abolition of nuclear weapons and to put an end to arms race across the world.
Drug trafficking on rise: DIG

Drug trafficking is on top among the list of crimes in the state and it is spoiling the youth of Punjab. It was observed that out of 10,000 youth aspirants, only 500 qualified for armed forces on the basis of physical fitness which is quite alarming, said Ishwar Singh, IPS, deputy inspector general of police, Ludhiana range, at a lecture meeting conducted by the Ludhiana Management Association (LMA) on ‘Industrial
