Violations: 3 MC officials suspended

The local bodies department, Government of Punjab, yesterday suspended three officials of the building branch of the MC following a complaint by a resident regarding building bylaw violations by a mall owner.

Hapreet Kaur of Kadon village, mother of three, allegedly killed her husband Paritam Singh by serving him drug-laced liquor and throwing his body into a canal over five months ago. She told relatives and the police that he had gone to look for a job after attending Chhapar Mela on September 26.

Pregnant woman commits suicide

A 21-year-old woman, Paramjit Kaur, who was married about three months ago, reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her in-laws’ house in Guru Nanak Colony on Monday night.

Mother of two dead; SSP orders probe

Swarnjit Kaur of Momnabad, a mother of two, died in mysterious circumstances at her house today. While her parents accused her in-laws of killing her for not bringing enough dowry, the latter maintained that she had committed suicide.

Violent youth taken to asylum

A mentally upset youth, who had been posing a threat to life and property of residents at Narangwal and surrounding villages for months, was taken by the police to a mental hospital in Amritsar after presenting him at a court here yesterday. Action was taken on the complaint of villagers.

Dharna against milk price hike

Residents protest against the rising prices of milk in Ludhiana Hindu Sikh Jagriti Sena members staged a dharna against hike in milk prices here today. They also burnt an effigy of “milk cartel”. Parvin dang, president of the association, said increase in milk prices had directly hit common man who already feel burdened due to high inflation. Dang said prices of essential commodities too had witnessed a significant rise in the past few months adding to the woes of people.

Devotees who returned from Katasraj in Pakistan being felicitated at Vaishno Devi temple in Ludhiana Jatha of Hindu pilgrims which returned to city after visiting Katasraj in Pakistan was today felicitated at Vaishno Devi temple in Housing Board Colony here. Train accident victim needs help

Joginder Kaur (30) of Kailash Nagar met with a train accident a few days back following which she was admitted to CMC Hospital. Her left leg had to be amputated to save her life. She also had a complex pelvic fracture.
