4 highway robbers nabbed

The police has busted a six-member gang of highway robbers who have been charged with committing 25 robberies or snatchings in the last 18 days in various parts of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.

The police arrested four residents, Shakeel, Naresh, Vinod and Arjun, all residents of slum areas, on a complaint of Bacchint Singh, driver with the Fire Brigade. He said he and two of his colleagues, Ricky and Harbans Lal, was injured as the four threw stones at them.

The joint action committee of the Punjab Agricultural University employees and teachers has urged the Chief Minister sanction funds so that vice-chancellor Dr M.S.Kang could disburse pension among retired employees, who have not been paid their salaries since November 2007.

The annual flower show of Punjab Agricultural University, dedicated to Dr M.S.Randhawa, was inaugurated here today by vice-chancellor Dr M.S.Kang. The two -day flower show has jointly been organised by the department of floriculture and landscaping and the department of family resource and management. In his inaugural address, Dr Kang said the flower business worth $ 45 million had taken the shape of an industry. Efforts were being made to expand the floriculture in Punjab as well. He informed India was already exporting dry flowers worth Rs 120 crore annually to various countries.

Mobile phone’s ring costs him Rs 500

Carrying a mobile phone in the court and that too without putting the same on silent mode proved costly to a person. Irked by the frequent ringing of mobile phone being carried by the man, the Judge imposed a fine of Rs 500 on him.
