From April 2, city takes global flight
Chandigarh, February 15
Work on a new ultra-modern terminal notwithstanding, Chandigarh is all set to come up on the international air map on April 2. Initially, the city is likely to be connected to destinations in West Asia and South Asia by both Indian and foreign air carriers.

UT outlay up by Rs 130 cr
Chandigarh, February 15
The Union finance ministry has agreed to a budget outlay of Rs 1547 crore for Chandigarh in the next fiscal starting April 1. An increase in allocation has been allowed for education, sports, health and capital works. The UT budget will be presented in Parliament at the end of this month.

Dhanas resident murdered

The body Naresh Kumar Pathania, a resident of Dhanas, was found in a nullah here today. A PU employee, he was president of the Dhanas Market Committee and also that of the Yuva Vikas Ramlila Committee there. The police has registered a case of murder.

Mohali to have state’s first 3-in-1 management institute
Mohali, February 15
Mohali would have the state’s first three-in-one management institute to be set by ISB of Hyderabad. This was announced by Punjab chief secretary Ramesh Inder Singh during an award ceremony here this evening.

Judicial complex likely by next Oct

The district courts judicial complex in Sector 43 is expected to be ready by October next year at an estimated cost of Rs 18.56 crore.

MC panel approves creation of division

The finance and contract committee of the MC has accorded approval to various agenda items, including creation of a division in the building and roads circle and a subdivision under the control of the executive engineer, horticulture.

2 injured in group clash in Bapu Dham Colony
Chandigarh, February 15
Tension gripped Bapu Dham Colony (BDC) here yesterday when two parties entered into a brawl and hurled bricks at each other, injuring two persons. The police was informed about the incident. It took the warring parties to the BDC police post, where both the parties reached a compromise.

Refund Rs 75,000 fee, forum tells PU
Chandigarh, February 15
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum-II today asked Panjab University to refund Rs 75,000 deposited as fee by Ankita Gupta, a student who took admission in the Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Sector 25.

Signals celebrates raising day
Chandigarh, February 15
The Corps of Signals celebrated its 98th raising day in Chandimandir today. Major-Gen Rajesh Pant, chief signal officer (CSO), Western Command, addressed officers and jawans in a special sainik sammelan. The CSO emphasised on the role being played by all ranks of the corps in enabling net-centric warfare. He also emphasised the key result areas specified by the western army commander, especially towards operational communication.

Central govt considering waiving farmers’ loans: MLA
Mohali, February 15
A proposal related to waiving off loans of Punjab farmers was being considered by the central government, said Kharar MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu. He said the proposal had been sent to the central government by the Congress leadership of the state.

Three injured in accident
Panchkula, February 15
Three persons, including a 14-year-old boy were critically injured in an accident here tonight. Kuldeep, Sudesh and Puneet (14) are residents of Mauli Jagran and were retuning home after visiting the civil hospital here on their scooter when they were hit by a speeding Skoda car. 

Increase in frequency of train to Kerala
Malayalee Samajam welcomes proposal

Members of the Malayalee Samajam, Mohali, a Keralite socio-cultural organisation, hailed the proposal for increasing the frequency of Kerala Sampark Kranti Express to Kerala to twice a week, for improved connectivity of the two destinations resulting in manifold inflow of tourists to both the destinations.

Dacoits loot mill; fire into air to escape mob
Panchkula, February 15
At least five dacoits carrying arms and iron rods looted Rs 40,000 from a roller flour mill in Pinjore today. They fled after firing into the air before they could break the safe vault containing more than Rs 3 lakh when challenged by residents of the area.

Driver killed in accident
Chandigarh, February 15
Ram Pal, resident of Colony No. 5, died when his autorickshaw was hit by a car on the road dividing Sectors 44 and 45 here today. The driver fled the spot. The incident occurred at 7 am. The victim succumbed to his injuries at hospital. A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered.— TNS

A decision in this regard was taken today during a meeting of education department attended by vocational teachers and others. Blueprint for security ready
Chandigarh, February 15
The administration today prepared a blueprint for the security of the district courts. A meeting was held to enhance the security arrangements on the courts premises. The meeting comprised deputy commissioner R.K. Rao, SP Kishanjit Singh and officers from the chief engineer’s office and the chief architect’s office and district sessions judge K.K. Garg.

RLA invites applications for new series

The Chandigarh administration has announed that the new series CH-04-C will be started in the first week of March. Vehicle owners who are desirous of obtaining a particular registration number against payment should submit their applications with the amount till February 28.

UT administration has asked for nominations for national awards designated as ‘Kabir Puraskar’ for honouring people who worked for promotion of communal harmony and national integration. Names may be sent to the administration till March 31.

Demolitions on at Pinjore
Panchkula, February 15
Continuing its demolition drive against alleged unauthorised constructions, the district town planner (DTP) enforcement wing razed to ground at least eight houses, one shop and hundreds of foundations laid for constructing buildings around Pinjore near here today. The drive, however, was peaceful.

Agriculture going through difficult phase : Expert

“Contemporary agriculture system in Punjab is going through a difficult phase where our natural resources have depleted, our farmers are not getting good returns, even health of our people is deteriorating,” said director of Kheti Virasat Punjab Surinder Singh here today.
