Abducted minor rescued
8 held; had sought Rs 7 lakh as ransom
Ludhiana, January 27
The city police has in an early morning swoop rescued a seven-year-old child from the clutches of alleged eight-member gang of abductors, who had kept him captive in inhuman conditions for six days near Noorpur.

Patriotism, fervour mark Republic Day
Mandi Ahmedgarh, January 27
Patriotism and fervour marked the Republic Day celebrations that were organised by a few educational, constitutional and poetical originations of the town and surrounding villages. Rajnish Sharma, president, Ahmedgarh Vidya Parcharak Sabha, hoisted the National Flag at a function jointly organised by the Janta College for Women, Lal Bahadur Shastri Public School and M.G.M.N. Senior Secondary School here.

Admin to clear pending mutations of land
Ludhiana, January 27
The district administration has launched a special drive for clearing the pending mutations of land and property in the district by updating the revenue records. Deputy commissioner Sumer Singh Gurjar said the drive was launched under the statewide programme on the directions of the Chief Minister.

Indo-Canadian bonhomie on R-Day
Mandi Ahmedgarh, January 27
It was a Republic Day celebration with a difference at Maherna village near here on Saturday. Unlike functions organised at other places in the state, celebrations here commenced in the afternoon and continued till evening with national flags of India and Canada held high equally on a banner put on the main stage.

Gurus XI clinch triangular series
Ludhiana, January 27
In a thrilling final, Gurus XI overpowered Dynamos XI by four runs in the annual cricket tournament organised by Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Alumni Association, at the school grounds here today. The third team was Young Bloods XI.

Ramandeep adjudged best athlete
Ludhiana, January 27
Ramandeep Kaur, student of BA I, won three titles and was adjudged the best athlete in the two-day 65th Annual Athletics Meet of the Government College for Women, Ludhiana, that concluded here on Friday.

Harpreet Kaur, a BA-III student, was adjudged best athlete for winning gold in seven disciplines during the 16th annual athletics meet of National College for Women, Machhiwara yesterday.
