Very soon the stadium would have the
facility”. Interestingly, the administration had turned down the Essel Group’s request of providing the stadium for their inaugural league held in December last year following which the group took over Tau Devi Lal Stadium at Panchkula and renovated it spending over Rs 4 crore to hold the league’s first edition. “Actually, they (ICL) approached us in October when we were busy in holding ODI between India and Australia. Breakthrough in pemphigus treatment: AIIMS
Chandigarh, January 25 In a development that may bring cheers to pemphigus patients, doctors at the AIIMS have reported high success rate in the treatment of the disease, which is probably the only fatal disease among the skin ailments. Dr V.K. Sharma head of the department of dermatology and venereology, AIIMS, told The Tribune that the DCP therapy was a boon for patients, on the sidelines of the Dermacon-2008, 36th conference of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists being organised at the PGI here. Lasting for about two years, the DCP regimen significantly reduces the side effects of other medicines used for the treatment of the disease. Not only that the disease continued to be in remission for 5-10 years without any relapse with the DCP therapy, Dr Sharma added. A former head of the department of dermatology and venereal diseases of the AIIMS, Dr J.S. Pasricha, claimed that the AIIMS treatment was a landmark as several prestigious foreign medical journals had reported that the disease continued to evade treatment. In fact, an exhaustive survey of the pemphigus at the AIIMS has revealed that 424 of the 500 patients were in remission for a variable period after complete withdrawal of all treatment. While one patient was still infected, 57 patients were not available for follow-up and 18 patients had died, Dr Pasricha informed. What is heartening to note was the fact that about 61 per cent patients did not develop a relapse for a minimum period of 10 years after complete withdrawal of the treatment, Dr Pasricha claimed. Early diagnosis and regular medication were keys to the treatment of the disease, which played havoc with the lives of thousands of patients, the doctors said. Clinical severity of the disease was the main reason for the dosage to be administered, they added. The treatment of the fatal disease has sent the medical fraternity in a tizzy, as fatalities are reported from the world over. |
