Freezing Cold
Schools to open at 9:30 am now

Ludhiana, January 23
Owing to the bone-chilling winter, the District Administration has decided to change the school timing from tomorrow. From the usual winter timing of 8:30 am, the administration has delayed the timing to 9:30 am. Sumer Singh Gurjar, deputy commissioner, has directed to all education institutions not to open their school before 9:30 am. The decision has been welcomed by the government teaching department.

Grewal distributes cheques worth  Rs 19 lakh
Doraha, January 23
Former minister and general secretary of SAD (B) Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal distributed cheques worth Rs 19 lakh in the form of old age pensions among 642 beneficiaries and gave Rs 15,000 each under ‘Shagun’ scheme to 37 beneficiaries at a function organised at Payal yesterday. Grewal also handed over cheques for construction of houses for 96 homeless families of villages under Payal constituency.

Workshop on tech upgradation fund
Ludhiana, January 23
The State Bank of India, Civil Lines branch, organised a day-long workshop for online submission of applications for claims under Technological Upgradation Fund (TUF) yesterday. The workshop was inaugurated by Shailendra Maru, deputy general manager, zonal office.
Inaugurating the workshop, Maru said the workshop was conducted in order to benefit textile and hosiery units here. "The Ministry of Textile has made it mandatory to fill online applications for claim of subsidy under TUF and certain applications are pending for release of subsidy as the branches are facing difficulties in submitting claims through the online mode. The workshop is a step in the direction to minimise the time taken in obtaining the claims," he added.

Robbers loot Rs 50,000 from petrol station
Mandi Ahmedgarh, January 23
Three motorcycle-borne miscreants robbed Rs 50,000 from the staff of a petrol station on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road near Alamgir village, near here, on Monday night and damaged office furniture and a TV installed there.

Poppy husk seized
Jagraon, January 23
Charanjit Singh alias Channa of Burj Hari Singh was arrested yesterday by Raikot police near drain Raikot and police recovered 46 kg of poppy husk from him. A case under Sections 15, 61, 85 of the NDPs Act was registered.

Wheat crop deficient in manganese: PAU scientists 
Ludhiana, January 23
PAU soils scientists, Dr I.M. Chhibba and Dr A.S. Sidhu, has in an advisory after surveying a few areas where wheat crop is being cultivated, stated that these areas were deficient of manganese. Severe deficiency of this micronutrient has been recorded in wheat fields in districts of Faridkot and Ferozepur.
