Family detains minor, kin for theft

Four members of a migrant family, including a seven-year-old girl and her elderly maternal grandmother, were allegedly detained illegally, beaten up and tortured by an influential family in Block-H of Sarabha Nagar and later at the police station of the area, as the minor girl was accused of stealing Rs 35,000 from the house.

Finally, his victory spell came to an end. Punjabi wrestler Karma Mandaud made the undefeated Rustam-e-Pakistan Hamid Ali Khan bite the dust in the Indian style wrestling encounter held at Jarkhar stadium late last evening. It was the first time that the Pakistani power house was subdued on Indian soil. During his earlier three appearances, he went back unconquered, wearing a victory crow.

City cricketer books slot
Ludhiana, January 16
Local lad Karan Goel has been selected as part of the North Zone team, scheduled to participate in the Duleep trophy tournament to be held from January 26 onwards. Surprisingly, seasoned paceman Gagan Deep Singh Toor has been left out from the side. Gagan had claimed 15 wickets in just two matches of the Ranji trophy, before injuring his hamstring. However, he is fully fit now.

PCR bike squad makes it 100

Five years after its introduction, the PCR motor cycle squad in the city has hit a century. Its fleet of bikes went up from 97 to 112 today with the Punjab Police headquarters supplying 10 new Pulsar bikes and five Bullets coming from local industrialists.

Animal husbandry can supplement incomes

Dairy development officials here have called upon farmers of the area to persuade their wards to receive short-term training in animal husbandry sector, under the Dairy Udham Sikhlai scheme. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, after interacting with members of Samaj Bhalai Society at Sihar village near here, dairy development inspector (DDI) Balwinder Singh urged office-bearers of various social and educational organisations of Payal subdivision to generate awareness among people regarding the necessity of supplementing their agricultural incomes by adopting allied professions like animal husbandry and milk processing.

In an endeavour to motivate teachers, Kundan Vidya Mandir screened Aamir Khan’s flick ‘Taare Zameen Par’ in its auditorium here today. Principal S.C. Saxena said the movie comes with a message that a dyslexic child should not be relegated to solitary existence, but his or her problem should be identified and solved amicably. Vice-principal Navita Puri, Soriia Verma and A. Sebra, in-charges of middle and primary sections, along with other staff members also saw the show.
