Makkar decries BJP stand on portrait issue
Bathinda, December 14 Makkar condemned the BJP for its alleged interference in the religious matters of the Sikhs. “The BJP only has a political alliance with the SAD (B). So it is not supposed to utter any word against the SGPC’s decision,” he said. The SGPC chief was on a private visit to the city. “When the issue of Ram Setu was being raised, we never said anything against the BJP. We expect the same from them this time,” he claimed. He said that the SGPC members decided to install the portrait because of the view that it was of a religious leader. According to the SGPC chief, said that during the Fateh March, only nine members of the SAD (A) arrived at the Akal Takht. So the number itself was enough to prove the kind of support that the group had, he added. When Makkar was asked about the legal notice issued against SGPC members on the issue, he boldly replied, “SGPC members have no fear as they have been fighting cases since the origin of the organisation.” He also informed that the SGPC has today appointed Gurmohan Walia as the director of education today. He termed the year as a ‘reform year’ for the SGPC and the Sikh community. A delegation of the IMA, Bathinda, also met him to apprise him about cases of female foeticide and the alleged false implication of doctors in criminal cases in this regard. The SGPC members assured the members of the Indian Medical Association in this regard. |
