The Punjab School Education Board has made it compulsory for Class V students to pass their annual examination for promotion to the next class. This was decided by the Board chairman at a meeting of district elementary education officers.

The Punjab government has ordered posting of the SSP, Muktsar, by giving charge of the district to Gurpreet Singh Gill, a Punjab Police Services (PPS) officer, thus ignoring IPS officers. The PPS officers senior to Gill have also been ignored.

5 of marriage party killed in mishap
Jalandhar, December 9
Five members, including two women, of a marriage party were killed and nine others were injured when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling collided with a truck near Kan Sabo village (under Nakodar police station) here today.
