Time for change, says third front
Ambala, September 25 Third front leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, farmers’ leader Mahinder Singh Tikait and youth leader from Assam Vrindavan Goswami addressed the rally, organised on the occasion of the 94th birth anniversary of Devi Lal at the HUDA ground. Addressing the rally, INLD supremo Om Prakash Chautala said the “present system” had to be changed. He said farmers here were being paid Rs 850 per quintal for wheat while it was being imported at a much higher price (Rs 1,600 per quintal). “Farmers of Haryana are more than willing to sell their wheat for Rs 1,500 per quintal,” he said. He said the government must not acquire and hand over land to large industrial houses for setting up special economic zones. He alleged that the UPA government was pursuing anti-people policies. He said the Jindal family tried to buy land at a cheap rate in Hisar. The market value of the land was worth Rs 500 crore. “It was only the timely intervention of INLD activists which prevented this scam from succeeding,” he said. Chautala said panchayat land must be bought for public use only after paying the market value. “However, in Kurukshetra, panchayat land is being usurped. Also, foundation stones laid by us are being removed. We are fighting a major political battle and the time has now come to change this capitalist system,” he stated. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said farmers were committing suicide in Congress-governed states. “I suggest that a major rally of farmers should be held and all parties must participate in it so that we can get justice for farmers,” he said. He said Devi Lal had devoted his life for the well-being of others. he compared Devi Lal with Nelson Mandela. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said Tau Devi Lal and N.T. Rama Rao had many similarities since both worked towards helping farmers. “Farmers are committing suicide. This is happening in states like Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. In Andhra Pradesh alone, nearly 4,000 farmers have committed suicide during the past three years,” he said. He observed that the UPA had failed in its policies. There was no consideration for the common man, he said. “On the Ram Setu issue, the Congress first filed a wrong affidavit and then withdrew it. This mistake of the Congress proved fruitful for the BJP,” he said. Naidu stated that all regional parties must come together. “We have formed the UNPA so that we can take up issues relevant for the common people especially farmers,” he said. Former UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said Devi Lal was a selfless man who had given away the position of Prime Minister. He alleged that under the UPA government, prices of essential commodities had skyrocketed and the Constitution was not being followed. “It is now time for a change,” he said. Farmers’ leader Mahinder Singh Tikait said, “We must strive to fulfil the dream of Tau Devi Lal. We must have confidence in ourselves. It is time for introspection,” he said. Former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana said Devi Lal was an ideal man who always worked for the welfare of the people. “The comments made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi on Lord Ram are unfortunate,” he said. Samajwadi Party national general secretary Amar Singh said this “morcha” was the future of the country. The large turnout at the rally caused major traffic jams on roads leading to Ambala City. Even former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah got stuck in a traffic jam. |

Rohtak, September 25 Unlike some of his teammates, Joginder comes from a humble background. State deficient in power: CM
Karnal, September 25 Around 88 different associations of the city were present on the occasion to put their grievances before the Chief Minister. “Haryana is on the path to become the number one sate of the country. The per capita income of the state is the highest in the country,” Hooda said. “But there are problems which are slowing the progress made by the state. The biggest one is shortage of electricity. Haryana has remained electricity deficient state since its inception,” he said. Having a dig at previous Chief Ministers, Hooda said: “There have been Chief Ministers who have ruled the state for 10 years or more, but they were not able to solve the power crises of the state. None of them thought of adding to the power output in the state by setting up power plants, which forced the state to buy power at an exorbitant rate of Rs 8 per unit. ” He assured the people that the state would be able to produce all power it needs before the tenure of his government ends. |
