Khadoor Sahib to get thermal plant first 
Khadoor Sahib (Tarn Taran),September 18

Underlining the need for planned development, Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal said here today that detailed micro planning at the block level would be taken up for by the state government. For this, teams of officials would be sent throughout Punjab to get relevant data about the missing infrastructure.

Cong leaders absent at Khadoor Sahib mela

Leaders like former CM Amarinder Singh, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Shamsher Singh Dullo and others were conspicuous by their absence at the political conference organised on the occasion of the annual mela to commemorate the installation of Guru Angad Dev at Khadoor Sahib, 24 km from here, today.

Punjab police to train pvt securitymen

To improve the standard of security personnel in the private sector, the Punjab government has decided to impart physical and mental training to selected recruits at the Police Recruits Training Centre, Jahan Khelan(Hoshiarpur district), from October 15. Besides tough physical ability standards, the government will provide training to enhance and polish skills in areas like communication skills in English and computers.

Punjab slashes land conversion charges

Relenting to vociferous protest from private colonisers, Punjab government has reduced the external development and conversion charges of land use. The charges had been exponentially increased last month but following protest the government has now revised its decision.

‘Zero discharge of effluents impossible’
Ludhiana, September 18
The Ludhiana industry seems to be more sinned against than sinning over the discharge of effluents into Budha Nullah. The P. Ram Committee constituted by the government to monitor the cleaning of the nullah has suggested zero discharge, which the industry maintains is "practically impossible" as it is not being done even in developed countries like the USA and Japan.

Balramji Dass opposes power tariff hike

Making a significant political statement, a former president of the Punjab unit of the BJP, Balramji Dass Tandon, said here today that instead of putting a burden to the tune of Rs 400 crore on domestic and other ordinary and poor people by way of increasing power tariff, the Punjab Government should pay this sum to the PSEB from the state treasury.

Committee detects Rs 1.20-cr fraud 
Kharar, September 18
The Kharar Market Committee has found that the Kharar Textile Mills had not paid Rs 1.20 crore to the committee as rural development fund and market fees during the period from 1995-2006. This mill is a unit of National Textile Corporation Limited.

Selecting Best Bidder
HC stresses on fair decision-making

Chandigarh September 18
 A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that while it is not always essential to give preference to the lowest bidder, fairness has to be reflected in the decision-making process. Also, "illusory injury" to a bidder is no ground for judicial review.

Medical College principal suspended

In a controversial “kidney removal scam”, the Punjab Government today suspended principal of Guru Nanak Medical College, Amritsar, Jaswinder Pal Kaur Shergill and emergency duty officer Dr H.S. Grewal and ordered an inquiry into this matter. 

Governor discusses Punjabi varsity row with CM

It seems the Punjabi University row is heading towards culmination. The Governor has spoken to the Chief Minister regarding the developments at the institution. This information was provided to the joint action committee convener Manjit Singh by Naveet Singh Kang, secretary, Governor.
