The excavation work to retrieve the remnants of the 2,300-year-old fort of Kath tribes, which once lived in this village and defeated Alexander, would be started soon. The residents of this village had not allowed Alexander to cross the Beas. The village - full of ancient and dilapidated structures - speaks volumes about the antiquity of the place. However, due to apathy of all concerned, the magnificent fort got buried under earth and villagers started constructing their houses there.

Levying of tax spells trouble for mentha growers

Owing to Punjab government's indifferent attitude towards them, 20,000 growers of mentha crop in the state are in trouble. No one is ready to lift their mentha oil stocks as the Taxation Department has started imposing tax on vehicles carrying the oil from Punjab to other states.

Undertrial commits suicide

Jawala Singh, who had been facing trial in a murder case registered against him in Mansa district and was lodged in the Central Jail here, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a water pipe in the day-time latrine adjacent to his barrack here today morning.

Quack arrested 
Kharar, September 1
The Kharar police has arrested a quack from Hasanpur village. Jaspal Singh, a resident of Morinda, has been practicing in the village for past two years. Besides giving medication to people, he also sold allopathic medicines.

Body of missing Thapar student found

The body of Thapar college student Taranveer Khurana, who went missing on August 25, was recovered from the Nirwana branch of the Bhakra main line canal in Haryana today. The body was brought to Patiala for postmortem.
