BSP asks govt to withdraw toll tax
Hoshiarpur, July 31 This was alleged by president of the Punjab unit of the BSP Avtar Singh Krimpuri and general secretary Onkar Singh Jhammat in a press note here today. The duo alleged that toll plazas, set up by private contractors in the state, were collecting money in the name of widening roads and making them four-laned under the BOT system. They said the state government was imposing a ban on the free movement of the public as the commuters had to pay heavy tax to the contractors of the roads laid under BOT system. Complaining against the implementation of BOT projects, they said they would expose the corruption of the SAD-BJP government. Pointing out at the decision of the last Congress government, they said, “The Congress government approved Rs 110 crore under the BOT project for Balachaur to Dasuya and allotted the project to a private company.” “The SAD-BJP has now provided a subsidy of Rs 50 crore and allowed the private contractor to collect Rs 110 crore within a period of 17 years,” they added. According to their information the contractor would earn Rs 1,700 to 1,800 crore during the period. Asking the state government to lift the toll tax immediately, they said “If the decision of toll tax is not withdrawn, then the state unit of the BSP would launch a mass movement against it.”
