Jammu, July 13
Martyrs day, observed every July 13 and marked as public holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, was observed as a black day by the migrant Kashmiri Pandit leadership, supported by the BJP.

While Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad stated in his message to the people of the state that the martyrdom of those killed during the uprising against the rule of Maharaja Hari Singh on this day in 1931 could never be forgotten, the BJP today dubbed the day as “totally devoid of national outlook and vision”.

Besides the BJP, the All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) held a congregation at the Geeta Bhawan here and issued a statement that July 13th had come to stay with the Kashmiri Pandits as a black day.

ASKPC general secretary H. L. Chatta condemned the state government for observing July 13 as the martyrs day, saying that this was humiliating for the Kashmiri Pandit community which had migrated from the valley due to insurgency.
