BJP stalls House proceedings over corruption
Shimla, March 7 BJP’s Mohinder
Singh raised the issue as soon as the proceeding began with the question
hour. He wanted the matter to be discussed under Rule 62 for which he
and the other two members had given notices. However, the Speaker
rejected their adjournment motion maintaining that the question hour was
never suspended. Thereafter, he proceeded with the question hour. The
BJP members tried to stall the proceedings by raising slogans against
the government. As the Speaker continued with the question hour in the
din the entire BJP group left the house. Minister for parliamentary
affairs Kaul Singh, said it was unfortunate that the BJP was resorting
to mudslinging by levelling charges without providing any documentary
evidence. He said if there was any substance in their allegations they
would file a complaint with the Lokayukta. The popular budget presented
by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had unnerved the Opposition and it was
now resorting to such tactics to belittle the achievement of the
government. The proceedings continued smoothly thereafter and the BJP
members returned to house after the question hour. Rajiv Bindal raised
the issue of taking a few populated areas out of the Chail wild life
sanctuary. Forest minister Ram Lal Thakur said the villages falling
within the sanctuary could not be included in the proposal for
de-notification already cleared by the national wildlife board. He said
no objections were received by the committee set up by the government
for making the proposal for de-notification of the sanctuary areas. A
hue and cry was raised only after the Supreme Court’s verdict, which
terminated forest rights in protected wildlife areas. |
Panel rejects land allotted to dam oustees
Nurpur, March 7 According to official information 700 murrabbas were earmarked recently by the Rajasthan government in jaisalmer district bordering Pakistan. The oustees who visited their murrabbas last year were startled to see they had been allotted barren land in an area where road connectivity and other amenities were non-existent. After a demand by these allottees the state government constituted an inspection committee headed by Amar Singh a Pong dam oustee. The government had recently sent a team comprising eight members in Rajasthan to observe whether the earmarked land was suitable for rehabilitation. After visiting these murrabbas a report on the topography and quality of land is being submitted to the state government. According to Mr Amar Singh, leading the team, the allotted land was non-cultivable and there was no amenity. No school, no hospital or no market were there adjoining the murrabbas, he added. The team reportedly found the allotted land unfit for cultivation as and dwelling. It is learnt that the Agricultural Department of the Rajasthan government had even declared the land as barren and unfit for cultivation. The members accompanying the inspection team revealed to The Tribune that by earmarking such land to the Pong dam oustees the Rajasthan government had done injustice to the oustees. They also appealed to the state government to take up the issue with the Rajasthan government so that fresh allotment was made at suitable place so that Pong dam oustees could be rehabilitated there. |
Probe against Cong leaders after poll: BJP
Shimla, March 7 Former Chief Minister and leader of the Opposition P.K. Dhumal today said the BJP, on coming to power, would order an inquiry into each and every charge mentioned in the chargesheets. Every year, the BJP had come out with a chargesheet against the Congress levelling serious corruption charges against ministers, bureaucrats and Congress leaders. "The BJP, which is in possession of evidence and documents to substantiate the allegations made in the chargesheet, will hand it over to the government only if an inquiry is ordered first," he said. In case the evidence was handed over to the government before an inquiry is ordered, the entire issue would be dumped. He said the BJP had evidence against officials and in one instance, an officer of the Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Department, having purchasing power of Rs 10,000, had made purchases worth crores. "Even in the case of the Dramla road, the allegations made by the BJP in the chargesheet had come out to be true and after an inquiry, 16 persons were suspended," he said. He said the Industries Association had demanded a CBI probe into allotment of industrial plots. "The government had dismissed allegations of irregularities even in the
HP-CPMT scam, which later on came out to be true," he remarked. |
