Molestation: ‘Erring’ Principal to be transferred

Government Senior Secondary School, Sihora, near Payal, was opened today after a day’s lockout. This followed an assurance from the authorities of the Education Department that stringent action would be taken against the erring acting Principal, who was accused of having molested a girl student.

Manmohan's Halwara visit cancelled

Residents of Basant Vihar, near Hambran road, are having sleepless nights following the digging up of a 40-foot-wide road for laying sewerage by the Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

Tohra loyalists yet to find foothold

Some staunch loyalists of former Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhik Committee (SGPC) president Gurchararn Singh Tohra, who have since returned to the Shiromani Akali Dal, continue to face uncertain future in the party. With just about two more months left for the Assembly elections in the state, none of them in Ludhiana has got any indication about possible nomination from any of the constituencies they represented earlier.

BJP mahila morcha to hold rallies from Dec 25

The Mahila Morcha of the Bhartiya Janata Party today announced a statewide protest against the rising inflation from December 25.The campaign in the state will coincide with the birthday celebrations of the former Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The members said previous construction of the flyover also took more than the scheduled time causing inconvenience to people here.

Activists of the Sangharash Morcha of Municipal Corporation, led by Mr Naresh Dhingan, chairman, Nagar Nigam Karamchari Union, and Mr Vijay Kumar, general secretary of the Safai Labour Union, today staged a dharna at the Zone D office of the Municipal Corporation(MC), in Sarabha Nagar, against the non-payment of salaries to safai workers, employed by the Mohalla Sanitation committees, as also to press other pending demands.

The Punjab Government has cleared the employment of 25 sportspersons out of a list of 295 players awaiting jobs in the police department, Mr Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Parliamentary Secretary, Home, Justice and Sainik Welfare, while addressing a cultural mela organised by the Punjab Sabhyacharak Club here on Sunday.

Tagore Public School provided a golden opportunity to the students of Class XII by organising career counselling by the Chandigarh Group of Colleges and the Flying Cats. During a three-hour session, the Chandigarh colleges apprised students of various options available after Class XII. The Flying Cats also provided counselling to the outgoing students.

Surgery to tackle obesity

Dr Gurdip Singh Sidhu, director and chief of the Surgery Department of the Sidhu Hospital, Doraha, recently performed total laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery on Mr Harvinder Singh (name changed), a 47-year-old businessman from Ludhiana. The patient weighed 170 kg.

GND varsity beat Jamia Millia in hockey

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, quelled a strong challenge from Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi, before romping home victorious 2-1 whereas Punjabi University, Patiala, faced no resistance from their opponents, Gurukul University, Haridwar, whom they routed 7-0 in the league phase of the 44th North Zone Inter-Varsity Hockey Tournament being played on Punjab Agricultural University campus here today.
