Private hospitals impress Singla
Tribune News Service

Mohali, December 18
Punjab Health and Finance Minister Surinder Singla said here today that private hospitals were providing better service than government hospitals. He appealed to the private hospitals to reduce the charges for the poor.

Mr Singla was here to lay the foundation stone for the advanced cancer radio therapy unit to come up at the Grecian Hospital at a cost of Rs 8.8 crore.

He said at private hospitals they had to deal with a lot of problems, including transfers of doctors. The private hospitals had to provide better services and facilities to patients to prove them. And doctors there were more accountable for work.

Highlighting various schemes for the poor, he said under the medical insurance scheme for the families below poverty line as many as 4. 5 lakh people in the state would be benefited within 15 days.

While the Cabinet had given its nod for the schemes three days ago, they were in the process of completing all formalities for their implementation, he added.

He said with an increase in the cost of medical treatment and lesser availability of doctors abroad, now more and more foreigners were visiting India for various treatments. It’s a better chance for the private hospitals to attract patients from abroad and get more business.

Mr Shivpreet Singh Samra, MD, Grecian Hospital, said the advanced radio therapy unit to be set up in the hospital would provide a complete three-dimensional cancer radiation therapy treatment under one roof.
