Currency racket busted:
Three members of a gang involved in fake currency racket were arrested by the Goindwal police on Saturday evening. A case has been registered. The accused have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, Gajan Singh and Lakhwinder Singh.

Honoured: Dr Onkar Singh, who retired as Professor and Head, Department of Anaesthesia, Government Medical College, Amritsar, has been awarded “Bharat Zyoti Award” for his meritorious services in the field of medical sciences.

Property stolen
: In three separate cases of theft, the local police has booked three unknown persons. In the first incident, some unknown miscreant allegedly stole an electric engine worth Rs. 6,000 from the field of Sukhchain Singh of Sidhwan Khurd on December 5. The local police has registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. In another incident, some unknown miscreant allegedly stole an electric engine worth Rs. 10,000 from the fields of Baljit Singh of Pona on the intervening night of December 8. The police has registered a case.

House burgled: The Raikot police has registered a case against unknown persons on the charge of committing theft of gold ornaments worth Rs. 4,000 and Rs, 2,000 in cash from the house of Gurcharan Singh of Bank Colony, Raikot, on December 9.

Scooterist injured: Gurcharan Singh of Heran was injured in an accident when a car collided with his scooter on Saturday. The Sudhar police has arrested the accused.

11 booked: The Sidhwan Bet police has registered a case against Boota Singh of Sangatpura, Surinder Singh, Satwant Singh, Nahar Singh, Rugvir Singh of Sidhwan Kalan, Amarjit Singh of Rauwal, Balvir Kaur and Parkash Kaur of Bhora Colony Ludhiana, Paramjit Kaur of Tajpur Road Ludhiana, Amarjit Kaur and Jasvir Kaur along with some unknown persons on the charge of trespassing on the land of Sukhpal Kaur of Kakkar Tihara and for damaging wheat crop on her land on December 9.

Seminar on female foeticide:
A seminar against female foeticide will be held at the Yadvindra Public School, on December 17. It will be presided over by the Chief Justice of the India, Mr Y.K. Sabharwal. Prominent among those who are expected to attend the seminar, which is being organised by the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, will be Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice Ashok Bhan, Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, and judges of the Punjab and Haryana High court.

Teachers' demands: A delegation of EGS teachers met with Preneet Kaur at the Sanatan Dharam Kumar Sabha Senior Secondary School, here, on Monday, to hand over a memorandum of their demands. Ms Kaur assured them their salary would be raised by a thousand rupees. She also ordered the reopening of an ETT, as demanded by them.

EPS function:
Environment Protection Society held its 9th annual distribution function, on Monday, at the St Soldier International Convent School. As many as 44 students from 17 schools received trophies and environment awareness competition certificates. Mr Ajoy Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development), Mohali, was the chief guest. The function was sponsored by Ranbaxy Laboratory Ltd, and presided over by Ms V. Tiwana, principal of the school. Mr T.S. Easwar, Director, Ranbaxy Lab. Ltd, was the guest of honour.

Loan disbursal camp:
A loan disbursal camp was organised by the Central Bank of India, at Shahbad, on Monday. Information was provided about different loan schemes and programmes. 12255 no frill bank accounts were opened and 160 credit cards were handed over. Bank director, Mr K Subbaraman, presided over the function.
