Self-rule sole solution: Mufti
Srinagar, October 28 While the Central Government was serious about resolving the Kashmir issue. Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf had also agreed that any solution acceptable to Kashmiris would be acceptable to him, the Mufti said. The PDP patron was addressing a largely attended public meeting at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket stadium here today, ahead of his New York visit to address the UN General Assembly. He expressed the hope that the separatist Hurriyat Conference, which stayed away from the Srinagar roundtable conference, would come forward in resolving the Kashmir problem. He hoped that the Hurriyat Conference would join the next round of talks as the dialogue process was the only solution to all problems. He also asked the Opposition National Conference to adopt a positive approach towards the resolution of the Kashmir issue. Referring to the alliance partner, the Congress, the Mufti said while the PDP worked in different directions at the state level, the Congress had to play a pivotal role for creating a consensus across the country over Kashmir. Elaborating on the self-rule formula, the Mufti said it envisaged the appointment of a state subject as an elected Governor of the state with no application of Article 356 of the Constitution. He demanded adjustment of the educated youth in the exclusive State Civil Services. The Mufti also demanded as an economic zone where people would be free to visit areas across the LoC and not keep it restricted to the divided families alone. |
