DMCH doc delivers lecture in LA

Ludhiana, October 23
Dr Gautam Ahluwalia, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, DMCH, was recently invited as a guest faculty member to deliver a lecture on “HIV-tuberculosis co-infection” by the National Institute of Health, Los Angeles, in association with the AIIMS and the National AIDS Control Organisation.

Dr Ahluwalia said HIV and TB were two main health problems in India which would impact the economy of the country in the long run.

TB killed one person every minute in India. “There are reports which say that India has the maximum number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world. Together, HIV and TB are a deadly combination. In fact, TB is the leading cause of death in HIV patients,” he said.

He said the good news was that TB was curable if treated appropriately and the Revised National TB Control Programme with directly observed therapy short course (DOTS).

Kabaddi tourney from October 27

Samrala, October 23
A kabaddi tournament will be organised by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Naujan Sports Club at Ghulal village, 5 km from here, on October 27, 28 and 29.

According to Mr Jagir Singh, sarpanch, teams of 37 kg, 42 kg, 47 kg, 52 kg, 58 kg and 62 kg will participate.

Mr Avtar Singh Ghulal, vice- president of the PPCC district unit, Ludhiana, will preside while Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, MLA, Samrala, will distribute prizes.
