Farm machinery display on October 27

The machinery for diversification in agriculture and farm safety will be 
demonstrated on the PAU campus (Gate No.4) on October 27.

This demonstration will be held by the department of farm power and machinery to educate staff, students and farmers on innovations in machinery used for various farm operations.

The head of the department , Dr S.S.Ahuja, said visitors would be acquainted with machines used for paddy stubble management, benefits of happy seeder, 
usefulness of minimum tillage technologies, besides demonstrating the working of paddy straw chopper and straw management-cum-spreader.

This machine was for facilitating smooth operation of conventional seed-cum-fertiliser drills, no-till or zero-till drills, strip till drills and double disc zero-till drill technologies. Dr Ahuja said these technologies were not only eco-friendly and safe on water but also soil-friendly. The department, he said, had also developed a vegetable transplanter that could be used for transplanting seedlings of vegetable crops.

Another machine on display would be maize dehusker-cum-thresher, groundnut digger, orchard and vegetable sprayers and many other related machines.

Green Grove School wins national award

Ludhiana, October 23
Green Grove Public School, Mohanpur-Khanna, attained national acclaim at the CBSE National-Level Science Exhibition held at Gurgaon. After securing first position at the regional level, Sanpreet Singh and Harneet Kaur Hara of Class X along with the in charge of the Physics Department, Mr Sanjay Katoch, participated at the national level and received national honour for their model “Mobile control electrical appliances”. The team comprising Sanpreet Singh and Harneet Hara will be felicitated by the President of India, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in Pune next month where all 20 selected models from all over India will be displayed.

As many as 135 schools from various corners of the country like Jammu and Kashmir, Chennai, Guwahati, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi had exhibited their exclusive working models.

The model displayed by Green Grove Public School was the only model from the northen region that received a national award. The team was presented a cash prize of Rs 3000 and a merit certificate by Mr R.P. Sharma, Education Officer, Science, CBSE.

The HRD Union Minister, Mr Arjun Singh, inaugurated the exhibition and the Chairman of CBSE, Mr Ashok Ganguly, presided over the show. The Principal of the school, Ms S. George, while congratulating the team said the students have brought laurels not only to the school but also to Punjab.

The members of the management, Mr J.P.S. Jolly and Mr Pawandeep Sehgal, appreciated the teacher Mr Sanjay Katoch, Ms Ruchi Sablok and Mr Anil Sharma for this outstanding achievement.

7 govt college students get scholarships

Ludhiana, October 23
The Yog aur Sewa Parivar (YSP) distributed Rs 10,500 as scholarships among seven students of Government College for Women Ludhiana, at a function held here today at the Principal’s office.

These seven students will be given Rs 3,000 per year in two instalments for three consecutive years. Ganpat Rai Vig, president YSP, G.L. Brara, chairman, Paramjit Singh vice-president, Usha Jain , treasurer and Mr SP Uppal, deputy manager were also present on the occasion.

The members of the YSP presented a memento to the Principal.

From Colleges
Training programme at PAU

Ludhiana, October 23
A10-day training programme was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports, from October 11 to 21 at the PAU.

As many as 17 programme officers from various colleges and schools of Punjab participated.

Dr Balwant Singh from Punjabi University, Patiala, was the coordinator while Mr Pankaj Bhambri, Mr Arvind Bhatnagar and Ms Arpana Singla were the programme officers from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College.

Drug de-addiction, AIDS, natural disaster management and sapling plantation were the main issues.

Earlier, a blood donation camp was also organised with the assistance of the Rotary Club. Seventy NSS volunteers of the college donated blood.

Placement offers

Yes Bank conducted campus interviews at the training and placement cell of the GNIMT, Model Town.

Seventeen MBA students (Semester III) were selected for various operations. The bank will start its operations in the city shortly.

Students visit milk plant

Students of BSNM College of Technical Education, Alamgir, visited the Verka Milk Plant here on Sunday. The supervisor of the plant explained the technical and marketing features of the plant.

Students were made aware of production techniques and quality control measures. Mr Amardip Singh, professor in charge, expressed gratitude to the General Manager of the plant.
