CBI raids Sangrur MLA’s house
Nothing incriminating found
Sangrur, October 10
A 10-member team of the CBI, led by Mr S.S. Sandhu, DSP, today raided the house of local Congress MLA Arvind Khanna situated on the Gaushala Road here. The search of Mr Khanna’s house continued for five hours from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, but nothing incriminating was reportedly found from the house and the CBI team did not take anything in its possession.

Govt pursuing package for farmers with Centre: CM
Bunga Sahib (Ropar), October 10
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said today the government was pursuing with the Central Government early announcement of a viable financial package on rural indebtedness to bail out debt-ridden farmers in the state. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is expected to make an announcement of a special package for farmers during his proposed visit to the state by the end of this month.

Ludhiana doctor held for youth’s murder

A surgeon killed a youngster who wanted to go abroad, in a hotel here. The doctor used a syringe to kill the youth. He booked a room in a hotel under a fake name and address, killed the youth by administering injections and fled. The police was clueless for more than a month. Mystery shrouded the murder, but a vial which was left by the doctor helped the police to crack the murder case.

NIT student’s death: HC summons accused
Chandigarh, October 10
No one really knows what happened on the intervening night of October 10 and 11 that led to the death of first-year engineering student Amit Gangwar last year on the rail tracks near Dr Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar. The boy died and a suicide note was found naming 10 students, including a girl, for ragging him severely.

11 PCS officers shifted

The Punjab Government today ordered the postings and transfers of 11 PCS officers. Mr V.K. Janjua, Commissioner of Fardikot Division, has been given additional charge of Commissioner, Surplus Pool.

3 foetuses found abandoned
Nangal, October 10
The Nangal police recovered three foetuses on the bank of the Sutlej here yesterday. Two male and one female foetuses were found lying abandoned near the cremation ground. The foetuses were sent for a post-mortem examination in the BBMB Hospital.

Rs 2.72 lakh robbed from bank
Bathinda, October 10
In a daylight robbery, three unidentified men struck at the State Bank of Patiala branch in Mehraj and fled away with about Rs 2.72 lakh cash.
