PGI raids: panel to give report shortly
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, October 2
Even after over two months of raids conducted on lockers belonging to the faculty members, besides junior and senior residents, in operation theatres (OTs) of the PGI by the vigilance cell of the institute, nothing concrete has come out.

Though the PGI authorities had constituted a committee of senior faculty members, headed by Prof Deepak Bhasin of the Department of Gastroenterology, to investigate the matter, the investigations seem to be have yielded nothing till date. The committee had provided the staff a chance to justify the presence of “objectionable” items in their lockers and then submit a report to the PGI management. The Bhasin Committee had to submit the report in a few days, but no time limit was fixed for it as such.

The Chief Vigilance Officer, Prof Amod Gupta, newly appointed sub-dean of the PGI, said the Bhasin Committee had been investigating the case and would give a consolidated report over it shortly.

Highly placed sources in the PGI say the case is being hushed up following resentment from doctors, technical staff and employees working in OTs. Faculty members had met the director, PGI, to express their annoyance and frustration following the raids.

Sources in the department claimed that the raids were conducted following directions from the top brass of the PGI management after complaints of pilferage.
