Rotary Club holds medical camp for villagers
Ludhiana, September 30 General medical check up, along with the examination of eyes and teeth of all students as well as other people was conducted by a team of doctors led by Dr Ramesh of Punarjot Eye Bank of Punjab. Dr Amit Bhandari (dental surgeon) and Dr Sarabjit Kaur (Medicine) were other members of the medical team. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramesh gave a lecture on eye care and told about precautions to be taken for avoiding damage to the eyes. He also emphasised the importance of eye donation and motivated the villagers to fill up pledge forms for eye donation. He informed that six eyes had been received as donation from three donors and the same will be transplanted to restore the eyesight of six persons. According to Mr R.S. Behal, president of the club, medicines were given to all patients free of cost and needy patients were also provided spectacles free of cost. One blind person from Kailpur village had been selected for eye transplantation and the whole procedure would be sponsored by the Rotary Club. Mr R.S. Behal, along with other members of the club, thanked Dr Ramesh and his team for visiting the village and providing access to the mobile van fitted with dental chair for dental check up. Meanwhile, the Lions Club, Ludhiana, organised a talk by Mr Hanks Kloster from Holland, an environmental expert in solid waste management here last evening. Making his presentation at a well attended meeting, Mr Kloster explained as to how the NGOs could work to motivate the general public and members of industry to cut down environmental pollution and save the city population from its disastrous effects. He told that he had undertaken a visit to a number of factories and the Budha Nullah in the city to assess the extent of pollution and tendered advice to industrial fraternity on ways to minimise pollution. |
City homoeo doc felicitated in USA
Ludhiana, September 30 Sikh Culture Society and Baba Makhan Shah Lobana jointly presented a certificate of honour to the doctor at a state level function in New York. He was honoured for selfless service at the camps organised by these organisations. Dr Deepinder Singh conducted various seminars and workshops. Dr Deepinder Singh also addressed gatherings at Guru Nanak Foundation and Guru Gobind Singh Foundation at Washington. During his talks, he focussed on issues of environmental pollution, world peace, mental and spiritual health. He was also invited by the Sikh Youth Foundation and Sri Hemkunt Foundation as a judge for international symposia held at San Jose (California). |
Sacred Heart girls shine in swimming championship
Ludhiana, September 30 In the sub-junior boy’s section, AS Modern Senior Secondary School, Khanna, garnered 40 points to bag the team championship, while the second position holders, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, scored 28 points. Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana amassed 92 points to clinch the overall team championship (boys and girls). Mani Mehtab Dhaliwal of Sacred Heart School, BRS Nagar, was adjudged the outstanding swimmer in the girls’ section (u-8 years), while Shubhkarman of the same school won this honour in the 9-10 years category. Other outstanding swimmers were Arman Kaur (11-12 years); Sukhraj Gill (u-8 years); Baleshwar Singh (9-10 years) and Adhiraj Sharma and Jatinderveer Singh (11-12 years). Saratray Singh, a five-year old boy, student of MGM Public School, Dugri road, and Punreet Grewal won the youngest participant prize. Dr Jaswant Singh, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, distributed the prizes. |
Lovejeet, Rajni win cross-country races
Ludhiana, September 30 The championship trophy in the men’s section was bagged by Sant Baba Bhag Singh Institute of Engineering and Technology, Padhiana, while this honour in the women’s section was secured by CT Institute of Engineering, Management and Technology, Shahpur. Earlier, Dr M.S Grewal, Registrar, Punjab Technical University, flagged off the men’s race and Mr Sukhdev Singh Garcha, secretary, Bhutta College of Engineering and Technology, inaugurated the women’s race. As many as 40 teams comprising 200 athletes drawn from all colleges of the PTU took part in the competition. On the basis of their performance in this championship, 10 boys and seven girls were selected to represent the Punjab Technical University in the forthcoming North Zone Inter-Varsity Cross Country Championship. They include (boys) Lovejeet and Arvind of DAVIET, Jalandhar; Jaswinder, Narinder, Gurpal and Navjot of SBBSIET, Padhiana; Paramjit of SBSCET, Ferozepore; Ravinder of GNDEC, Ludhiana; Rohit and Gurjit of IET, Baddal. Girls— Rajni, Anu and Prabhdeep of CTIEMT, Jalandhar; Ranjodh of GNDEC, Ludhiana; Balwinder and Joyt of RIET, Phagwara; and Ruchika of DAVIET, Jalandhar. |
