Chargesheet for DEO a day prior to retirement
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, September 30
The District Education Officer, DEO (Secondary), Mr Yashpal Mehra has been chargesheeted by the District Education Department. Ironically, he was issued the charge sheet yesterday, a day prior to his retirement today.

According to sources in his two years of service in Ludhiana as a DEO he had allegedly bungled funds under his charge. A high level team had conducted an inquiry into the various cases of mismanagement of funds under him and they had also seized some records from the Education Department. The team had arrived from Chandigarh recently and had carried on investigations for seven hours and during that time never allowed anyone to leave the office.

It is understood that during his tenure as a DEO, there was a lot of bungling of funds specially during the National Games held in the city. Mr Mehra had accepted the post of DEO two years ago and was considered a ‘‘favourite’’ of Mr Johar. However, all efforts to contact Mr Mehra for his comments on the issue failed.
